The Department of Development Services, Building Development Division, is seeking a full-time Special Inspections Engineer to support both residential and commercial construction projects with significant structural engineering components. About This Role:
This job is a mix of office and field work.
The office component of this role involves reviewing construction drawings and engineering reports, as well as coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to help ensure public safety in completed facilities. The field component includes visiting active construction sites to perform quality assurance inspections. These inspections ensure work is progressing according to the approved plans, building code requirements and County policy and procedures.Effective communication with contractors, engineers, and third-party inspectors is essential to ensuring code compliance and construction safety.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 1 year of relevant experience, such as work as a design professional, construction inspector, plan reviewer, or code enforcement inspector.
Preferences:
- 1 year of engineering experience.
- Skills using MS Office and occasionally structural and geotechnical engineering software and CAD.
- Experience with computer data entry to prepare, maintain, and update reports under different formats.
- Experience applying code knowledge in order to perform quality control reviews.
- Experience scheduling maintenance and inspections prior to building inspections.
Work Schedule:This position works a standard Monday-Friday schedule, working 37.5 hours per week.
This position has the ability to telework 1-2 days per week after an initial probationary period of 6-months.
Special Requirements:
- Must be certified as an E.I.T. (Engineer in Training) within 18 months of employment.
- Must become certified by the Virginia Department of Housing & Community Development as a Commercial Building Inspector within 18 months of employment, in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code.
- Must become certified as a Residential Building Inspector within 36 months of employment in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
- Must pass a DMV records check.
Hiring Range: $74,217 - $82,000
