Solution Architect, Solution Engineering (Java) - Pune, MH

Role Responsibilities

As an Software Engineer at Western Union, you will use AI coding agents to accelerate how we build, modernize, and improve products across our global money movement platforms. Rather than only writing code directly, you will guide AI agents to build applications, workflow automations, internal tools, and basic AI agents that solve real customer, agent, and operational problems.

You are a full-stack product builder who starts with the question: “What customer or business problem are we solving?” You will work across engineering, product, operations, risk, compliance, and customer care to identify friction points and rapidly ship safe, reliable, and measurable solutions.

You will be measured by the speed, quality, security, and business impact of what you ship — not by the volume of code you personally write. You will also –

  • Build AI‑assisted applications, workflow automations, internal tools, and lightweight agents across product and platform domains.
  • Translate customer, agent, and business requirements into clear specifications and end‑to‑end production solutions.
  • Use AI to accelerate modernization, testing, documentation, observability, and engineering productivity.
  • Review AI‑generated code and designs to ensure compliance with security, privacy, regulatory, reliability, and quality standards.
  • Instrument systems to track adoption, usage, conversion, error rates, customer friction, and operational outcomes.
  • Design and maintain scalable, secure, fault‑tolerant architectures supporting high‑volume financial transactions.
  • Lead architecture reviews, proof‑of‑concepts, and design discussions across engineering teams.
  • Develop integrations with risk and compliance orchestration systems, third‑party platforms, and digital channels.
  • Build and maintain compliance back‑office solutions including transaction monitoring, controls, reconciliation, and regulatory reporting.
  • Design efficient data pipelines and analytics using technologies such as PostgreSQL and Snowflake.
  • Define and enforce coding standards, architectural guidelines, and best engineering practices.
  • Evaluate and adopt tools, frameworks, and emerging technologies such as AI services and micro‑frontend architectures.
  • Partner with Product, QA, Risk, Compliance, Operations, and Customer Care teams to identify automation and experience‑improvement opportunities.
  • Document reusable patterns, prompts, guardrails, and learnings to scale AI‑native engineering practices.
  • Foster a “learn‑by‑doing” culture focused on experimentation, measurement, and continuous improvement.

Role Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional software development experience, including 2+ years in a solution or technical lead role within a medium to large organization.
  • Hands‑on experience using AI coding agents to build or accelerate end‑to‑end software delivery.
  • Strong ability to write effective prompts, iterate with AI tools, and validate AI‑generated outputs for production use.
  • Solid full‑stack development knowledge across frontend, backend, APIs, data, cloud, and infrastructure.
  • Strong foundation in clean code practices, SOLID principles, and TDD/BDD methodologies.
  • Experience with modern architectural patterns including web applications, APIs, databases, event‑driven systems, queues, workflow automation, and microservices.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing scalable software architectures deployed at scale.
  • Hands‑on experience with modern programming languages (e.g., Java, C++), design patterns, and core computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, OOP, OOA/D).
  • Experience with Java/J2EE, web technologies, web services, and frontend frameworks such as Angular or React.
  • Strong understanding of secure coding, privacy, compliance, reliability, observability, and production‑readiness in regulated environments.
  • Experience working with Agile methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and infrastructure as code.
  • Ability to interpret product and operational metrics such as usage, conversion, error rates, latency, availability, and failure trends.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into effective technical solutions aligned with modern technology standards.
  • Strong customer‑first mindset, connecting engineering outcomes to measurable business impact.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain and evangelize architectural concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Proven collaboration with DevOps and platform teams to optimize deployment pipelines, monitoring, and operational stability.
  • Comfortable working in highly regulated, global environments where quality, resilience, and trust are critical.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with distributed systems, API design, and data modeling.
  • Experience with Risk & Compliance back-office controls and case management applications.
  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Exposure to Agile/Scrum methodologies and DevOps culture.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to stakeholders.
  • Experience with UX/UI technologies

Nice to have:

  • Experience in Financial Services industry
  • Experience in Cloud (AWS/Azure/Google or Hybrid) based architecture designs and implementations
