Solidworks CAD/CAM Designer - Steel Fabrication & Manufacturing

QMF Steel, Inc.
Campbell, TX

QMF Steel is seeking a SolidWorks CAD/CAM Designer to support the design and production of fabricated metal components across TXDOT infrastructure projects and custom fabrication work. As an ISO 9001 and AISC-certified manufacturer, we handle everything from raw material through final production in-house.

This is an onsite, hands-on manufacturing role, not a basic drafting position. You will interpret civil, structural, and customer drawings and convert them into production-ready models, drawings, nests, and ERP data used directly by the shop.

Projects include Highway overhead sign structures, ITS poles, high-mast poles, hand railing, COSS/OSS assemblies, and a wide range of custom fabricated components.

Responsibilities

- Interpret TXDOT, civil, structural, and customer drawings and translate them into fabrication-ready designs

- Create SolidWorks models, assemblies, weldments, and sheet metal components

- Generate production drawings and submittal packages

- Produce flat patterns, DXFs, and cut-ready files

- Prepare nests using SigmaNEST, SigmaTUBE, Lantek, or similar CAD/CAM software

- Generate and manage BOMs (Excel → M1 ERP)

- Assist with ERP data entry, including BOMs and basic routing

- Set up and maintain raw material part numbers in the ERP system

- Apply AWS D1.1 weld symbols and standard dimensioning practices (ANSI Y14.5)

- Review and mark up drawings using Bluebeam

- Support estimating through material usage and cost awareness

- Maintain file organization and revision control

- Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency and accuracy

Required Qualifications

- 3+ years of SolidWorks experience in a manufacturing environment

- Experience with sheet metal, weldments, and fabrication drawings

- Ability to read and interpret civil, structural, or fabrication drawings

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (BOMs, data organization, basic functions)

- Strong attention to detail and data accuracy

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to find solutions using available tools and resources

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience with nesting software (SigmaNEST, SigmaTUBE, Lantek, or similar)

- Familiarity with M1 ERP or similar systems

- Experience with AISC standards and structural steel fabrication

- Ability to read and apply AWS D1.1 weld symbols

- Familiarity with ANSI Y14.5 (GD&T)

- Experience using Bluebeam for drawing review and markups

- Exposure to SolidWorks Costing or estimating support

- Experience supporting routing or manufacturing process definition

- Familiarity with Excel VBA or automation (training available)

- Willingness to learn and adapt to new CAD/CAM systems (future tools such as CADLINK)
