About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Software QA Tester to support the DC Office of the Chief Technology Officer, working on an enterprise application for the Department of Motor Vehicles.
The QA Tester will be responsible for validating application functionality, reviewing requirements, creating and executing test cases, documenting defects, and supporting the full software development lifecycle from design through deployment. This role requires strong hands-on experience with manual testing, automation testing, Jira, SQL, test documentation, and Agile delivery.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, collaborative, technically strong, and comfortable working onsite with project managers, developers, business analysts, and client stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform software application testing for enterprise DMV applications.
- Review and analyze requirements, user stories, wireframes, and acceptance criteria.
- Develop test strategies, test plans, and test cases for functional, regression, integration, usability, and automation testing.
- Execute manual and automated test cases.
- Create, track, and manage defects using Jira.
- Validate application data using SQL queries.
- Write automated test scripts using tools such as Selenium, ACCELQ, or similar frameworks.
- Perform API testing and integration testing.
- Conduct cross-browser and usability testing.
- Document test results and maintain test artifacts.
- Collaborate with developers, business analysts, project managers, clients, and end users throughout the testing lifecycle.
- Participate in Agile team ceremonies and support release readiness.
- Ensure testing activities comply with DC Government security standards.
- Support defect resolution and communicate issues clearly to project teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years of software testing / QA experience.
- 6+ years of experience with Jira.
- 6+ years of experience with Micro Focus ALM or related test management tools.
- 8+ years of experience performing requirements review, writing test cases, executing test cases, and creating defects.
- 10+ years of experience testing reports.
- 10+ years of SQL experience for data validation and testing.
- 10+ years of experience collaborating with project managers, clients, developers, and technical teams.
- Strong understanding of SDLC and Agile delivery.
- Experience with version control.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work onsite in Washington, DC.
- Must qualify for STaR2 Journeyman labor category.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Selenium, ACCELQ, or similar automation testing tools.
- Experience with REST API testing.
- Experience with integration testing.
- Security testing knowledge.
- Experience with Figma, Adobe XD, or similar wireframing/design tools.
- Experience adapting business requirements and processes into technical testing solutions.
- Experience with ERP management processes such as knowledge management, supply chain management, material management, logistics, or procurement.
