Software Engineering & Business Systems Intern

We are seeking a Software Engineering & Business Systems Intern to help develop practical software tools, dashboards, and automation solutions across accounting, finance, operations, and other departments. This role is ideal for a candidate who enjoys using AI-assisted development tools to solve real business problems, streamline reporting, and turn data into usable insights.

Responsibilities
- Develop software to automate business processes, streamline analysis, and improve reporting workflows.
- Develop reporting dashboards and recurring analysis tools for accounting, finance, and executive decision-making.
- Automate and improve the analysis of e-commerce data and other reports used for accounting entries and financial reporting.
- Support financial and data analysis for leadership by organizing, cleaning, analyzing, and summarizing business data.
- Work with team members to understand existing workflows, identify pain points, and translate business needs into practical software solutions.
- Review, test, and validate outputs to ensure tools, reports, and analyses are accurate, reliable, and usable.
- Assist with projects across accounting, finance, logistics, operations, and warehouse workflows as business needs evolve.
- Document tools, workflows, assumptions, and procedures clearly so solutions can be maintained and used by others.
- Provide limited support on technology-related projects, including troubleshooting, systems, and hardware coordination when needed.
Qualifications
- Pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Business Information Systems, or a related field.
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or similar platforms to support software development and problem-solving.
- Ability to break down business problems into clear technical steps and explain solutions to non-technical users.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn cross-functional workflows across departments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Experience
- Working knowledge of Python and/or SQL; experience with JavaScript, TypeScript, VBA, or similar languages is a plus.
- Portfolio, GitHub, demo, or project examples that clearly show the problem solved, tools used, workflow, and final output.
- Experience building tools to automate processes, streamline analysis, create dashboards, or improve reporting workflows.
- Experience with accounting systems, ERP systems, databases, or business reporting tools.
- Prior exposure to accounting, finance, FP&A, logistics, sales analysis, or operations.
The anticipated compensation range for this position is $18.00 an hour.
