Undergraduate Software Engineer Intern - AI (Paid Internship)

THE OPPORTUNITY

Are you seeking a challenging and rewarding internship in the dynamic field of Information Technology? Do you aspire to gain hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies such as automation, Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and test scripting for application testing? If your answer is yes, then OCERS has the perfect opportunity for you! Under general direction, the Software Engineer Intern - AI will work cohesively with all departments in providing OCERS team members and management with high-quality and effective technology solutions and support that contribute to the exceptional and efficient administration of the system. The Software Engineer Intern - AI will report directly to the Programming Manager. This position will focus on new technology research, process design, and development with the goal of improving efficiency and accuracy in the OCERS systems.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include but are not limited to the following:

  • Collaborate with experienced IT professionals on real-world projects.
  • Gain practical experience in automation, RPA, and AI technologies.
  • Contribute to the research, development, and implementation of new, modern IT solutions.
  • Participate in troubleshooting and problem-solving activities.
  • Assist in the maintenance and optimization of IT systems.


As an Software Engineer Intern focusing on AI, you will be involved in various aspects of automation, RPA, and AI, such as:

  • Developing, testing, and deploying automation scripts and workflows.
  • Analyzing business processes and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Designing, building, and integrating AI models and applications.
  • Researching and learning new technologies and best practices.
  • Collaborating with mentors, and professionals.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications required for entry into this classification are as follows:

Education and/or Experience

  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university from an associate’s or bachelor’s degree program with major coursework in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a closely related field that has provided a sound conceptual understanding of information technology, application development, and programming concepts with an expected graduation date in Winter 2026 or after.
  • Proven basic programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, C#, etc.
  • Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • Availability to work at least 20 hours per week for 3 months.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Attach a copy of your most recent transcript (unofficial copy acceptable).


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Sample of skills necessary to perform essential duties of the position:

  • Work with business partners and elicit specifications to ensure the satisfaction of needs while observing dynamic and critical thinking yielding robust solutions.
  • Design, build, program, test, and deploy RPA software solutions using an Agile/DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control) methodology.
  • Research, develop new solutions using latest AI technology.


HIGHLY DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in developing, testing, and deploying automation scripts and workflows.
  • Experience in analyzing business processes and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Designing, building, and integrating AI models and applications.
  • Researching and learning new technologies and best practices.

  • A valid California C driver’s license or the ability to arrange necessary and timely transportation for field travel.
  • May be required to use personal vehicle.
