Job Title: Software Development Engineer (C#, .NET, Azure, Kusto)
Location: Redmond, WA
Worksite: Onsite
Job Description:
- We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Software Development Engineer (SDE) with a focus on infrastructure and automation. In this role, you will build and maintain backend systems that improve service reliability, operational efficiency, and observability across critical components.
Key Responsibilities:
- Backend Development & Infrastructure Automation:
- Design and implement backend components and service workflows to automate infrastructure operations and improve service reliability.
- Build and enhance environment automation to ensure consistency and stability across internal and production environments.
- Contribute to scalable and reusable systems that standardize operational behavior across tenants and services.
- Investigate and resolve deployment pipeline issues including artifact provenance, release naming, and approval flow automation.
- Perform environment-specific configuration changes such as SSL certificate rotation, auth enablement, and service-level code cleanup across staging and production environments.
Observability & Diagnostics:
- Strengthen telemetry and diagnostics pipelines using Dgrep, Kusto logs, and structured tracing for better system visibility and root cause analysis.
- Implement error classification, retry logic, and resilience patterns to improve system stability and reduce false alarms.
- Refine error classification and logging strategies to reduce noise and improve issue resolution.
- Implement security best practices and compliance checks across infrastructure and deployments.
- Evaluate and prototype modern telemetry solutions to complement or replace legacy tracing mechanisms.
Code Quality & Reusability:
- Refactor shared logic into common libraries to promote consistency and reduce duplication.
- Write clean, modular, and well-tested code that aligns with established engineering standards.
- Participate in code reviews and collaborate on technical design decisions.
Testing & CI/CD:
- Increase test reliability and coverage, especially for complex workflows involving infrastructure or permissions.
- Introduce resilience testing and chaos engineering practices to proactively identify weaknesses.
- Contribute to CI/CD improvements by ensuring builds and validations are stable and efficient.
Operational Excellence & Documentation:
- Investigate production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement durable fixes.
- Contribute to capacity planning and performance optimization to ensure systems meet SLAs under varying workloads.
- Maintain and enhance documentation for recurring patterns, edge cases, and troubleshooting workflows.
- Address security hardening tasks such as disabling local auth on cloud resources (e.g., Azure Cache for Redis) and managing certificate lifecycle monitoring.
Cross-Team Collaboration:
- Partner closely with the Client Engineering team and other cross-functional partners to ensure backend infrastructure supports product needs, scales reliably, and integrates smoothly with client-facing components.
- Contribute to shared technical reviews, sprint ceremonies, and release planning with offshore teams to drive consistent delivery and knowledge sharing.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
- Strong proficiency in C# and .NET development.
- Experience developing and maintaining backend services or distributed systems.
- Strong understanding of logging, monitoring, and diagnostics in production environments.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release workflows.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP).
- Exposure to infrastructure automation or reliability-focused engineering.
- Familiarity with retry logic, circuit breakers, and other resilience patterns.
- Ability to create reusable libraries and shared abstractions to standardize service behavior.
- Experience working with production incidents and improving system health through automation and code.
- Familiarity with Azure monitoring, Geneva Telemetry & Geneva Actions, and Kusto (ADX) for production diagnostics.
- Understanding multi-tenant systems, service orchestration, and cross-environment deployment strategies.
- Familiar and able to work in azure-based environments for advanced actions like tweaking the resources on Azure to fix the security issues.
