SDOT’s Pavement, Signs and Markings Division is looking for a Signs and Markings Supervisor (Crew Chief II) to join the Traffic Signs & Markings Field Operations Group. The Supervisor is an integral part of the field operations leadership team supervising, planning and assigning work to subordinate supervisors engaged in street painting according to the City regulations and the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices, participating in developing policies and procedures for installation, maintenance, and repair of Traffic Signs, Guard Rails, Crash Cushions, and Pavement Markings and ensuring crews are trained on the safe operations of machinery and equipment.

  • Coordinates and reviews Crew Chief assignments and human resource needs of crews involved in the installation, maintenance, and repair of Traffic Signs, Guard Rails, Crash Cushions, and Pavement Markings.
  • Formulates and drafts policies and procedures for installation, removal, and maintenance of Traffic Signs & Markings.
  • Proactively evaluates work methods and develops and evaluates changes in work methods for greater efficiency and safety.
  • Establish priorities, through lower-level supervisors, for work being performed by field crews.
  • Coordinates special human resource materials, training, and special project needs with lower-level supervisors.
  • Reviews completed crew work to ensure adherence to standards and regulations.
  • Orders necessary materials, parts, tools, and equipment.
  • Ad hoc reporting of Metrix related to work accomplishments & program efficiency
  • Ensures employees are provided training programs in skills improvement and safety.
  • Significant Computer work with Microsoft Office Products & Hansen Work Management System.

Minimum Qualifications:

Experience:

  • Two years of experience as a lead or supervisor of crews responsible for the installation and maintenance of non-electric traffic control devices (Combinations of education, training, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability).

OR:An equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the position duties.

License, Certification:

  • A valid State of Washington Driver's License is required for employment. This license must be maintained throughout employment.
  • This position requires a valid Washington State, "Class A" Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with the airbrake restriction removed, within 1 year of appointment. If required, this license must be maintained throughout employment.
  • Provide a "Full Driver Abstract Record" to the State of Washington Department of Licensing. (Itwill be required at the interview stage at the applicant's expense).

Though not requirements, strong candidates will have some of the following experience or are able to describe comparable experience:

  • Two (2) years’ experience Operating a Paint Truck & Thermoplastic Applicator
  • Two (2) years’ experience as a Traffic Signs & Markings Crew Chief I
  • Microsoft Office Proficiency – Two (2) Years’ experience with Work Management Systems.


Work Environment / PhysicalDemands:

  • Work environment involves occasional exposure to street traffic, noise, and fumes. Occasionally required to work on weekends or extended hours given project requirements and needs.

The full salary range for this position is $51.74 - $55.80 per hour.
