Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is seeking a Side Sewer Permit Inspector who thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume environment where no two inspections are the same. In this role, you will perform same-day, onsite inspections for repairs, alterations, and new construction ensuring compliance with stormwater and Seattle Municipal Codes. Working both independently and under the guidance of Area Lead Inspectors, you will apply your knowledge of civil and construction practices to support safe, compliant infrastructure across theCity.
This position requires a strong foundation in civil and construction principles, including the methods, materials, and techniques used in inspection work, as well as the ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, and construction documents. Inspectors are expected to evaluate field conditions, communicate clearly with contractors and the public, and support timely project completion. Success in this role requires the ability to apply code requirements in real-world situations, adapt to changing conditions in the field, and continuously build technical knowledge and inspection expertise.

Experience: Requires two (2) years of civil engineering experience
AND
Education and Experience Equivalency:Associate Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or two years of college level coursework in engineering and construction technology (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).

The full salary range for this position is: $53.60 – $62.40per hour.
