Job Title: Shipping Clerk - 2nd shift - 19/hr

Job Description

The Shipping Clerk plays a key role in daily shipping and receiving operations by safely loading and unloading trucks, accurately processing documentation, and maintaining organized inventory flow throughout a busy steel manufacturing facility. This position combines hands-on material handling, data entry, and customer service while working closely with drivers and internal teams to ensure that all shipments leave and arrive on time and in good condition.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload trucks for shipments using forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Handle a variety of vehicles and loads, including semi-trailers, flatbeds, pickup trucks, and small parts loaded into cars.
  • Check shipping and receiving paperwork to verify accuracy of orders, quantities, and destinations before shipments leave the facility.
  • Stage and organize loads in designated areas to prepare them for timely shipment.
  • Move parts and materials throughout the facility to support production and shipping schedules.
  • Perform data entry for incoming and outgoing shipments using computer systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Provide professional customer service by communicating with drivers and coordinating loading and unloading activities.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to resolve shipping and receiving issues as they arise.
  • Use pallet jacks, sit-down forklifts, and other warehouse equipment to move, load, and unload materials safely.
  • Assist with packing and packaging of parts and materials to ensure they are secure for transport.
  • Perform order picking and warehouse shipping tasks, including pulling, staging, and verifying orders.
  • Support inventory control activities such as cycle counts and general inventory checks to maintain accurate stock levels.
  • Use RF scanners, SAP, or similar systems as needed to track inventory and shipments.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area within a hot and dirty steel factory environment.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including wearing required protective footwear and handling materials safely up to 50 lbs unassisted.
  • Be available for overtime as needed, including extended work periods when business demands require it.

Essential Skills

  • Proven shipping and receiving or warehouse background.
  • Experience using computer systems for data entry, including Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to accurately enter and verify data for incoming and outgoing shipments.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs unassisted on a regular basis.
  • Comfort working in a hot, dirty steel factory environment with both indoor and some outdoor tasks.
  • Basic knowledge of material handling practices, including loading, unloading, and staging shipments.
  • Strong attention to detail when checking paperwork and verifying shipment information.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with drivers and internal team members.
  • Reliability and willingness to work 2nd shift (approximately 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.).
  • Openness to working overtime when required to meet production and shipping demands.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous forklift experience, including sit-down forklift operation, is preferred.
  • Prior shipping experience in a manufacturing environment is a strong plus.
  • Experience with pallet jacks and other warehouse material handling equipment.
  • Familiarity with packing, packaging, order picking, and warehouse shipping processes.
  • Experience using RF scanners for picking, inventory control, or cycle counts.
  • Exposure to SAP or similar warehouse and inventory management systems.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple shipments and tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to perform general labor tasks in a warehouse or factory setting as needed.

Work Environment

This role is based in a hot and dirty steel factory with approximately 50 people, offering a fast-paced and physically active work setting. You primarily work indoors with some tasks performed outdoors as needed, and you regularly handle materials and parts throughout the facility. The position is on 2nd shift, typically from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., with some overtime required during busy periods, including the possibility of extended stretches of consecutive workdays. You use equipment such as forklifts, sit-down forklifts, pallet jacks, RF scanners, and computer systems including Microsoft Excel and potentially SAP. The dress code requires protective, closed-toe footwear suitable for a steel manufacturing environment, along with other appropriate work attire for an industrial setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Toledo, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $19.00/hr.
