The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Departmentinvites qualified professionals to apply for the position ofSheriff's Behavioral Health Physician II*.Incumbents assume medical responsibility for adult and/or child and adolescent patients under their direct care and supervision. Incumbents may also be assigned to supervise/teach residents and medical students or to work in specialty areas.
Essential duties include conducting comprehensive psychiatric assessments/evaluations and mental status examinations (MSEs) of adult patients, providing diagnoses according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) approved by the American Psychiatric Association; developing and implementing individualized mental health treatment planning for assigned patients; providing competent psychotropic medication treatment and other psychiatric treatments to meet the needs of assigned patients; and performing related tasks as required.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department is establishing an internal Behavioral Health Services Program within its adult correctional facilities to maintain ongoing responsibility for mental health and healthcare services. This transition will support continuity of care for the incarcerated population through integrated services and early intervention, using an ongoing collaborative, multidisciplinary approach focused on improved health outcomes.

Summary ofBenefitsMemorandum of Understanding (MOU)CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENTPre-Employment Process: Prior to appointment, applicants must pass a credit check and medical exam, which may include drug and/or TB testing. Applicants must be a U.S. Citizen or a permanent U.S. resident.
Background: Candidates must not have been convicted of a felony and must successfully pass an extensive background investigation which includes a fingerprint check and polygraph examination.Shift:Must be available to work various 10 and/or 12 hour shifts.
Travel: Travel throughout the County will be required. At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced and maintained for the individual providing the transportation. The incumbent must be willing and able to travel between Sheriff's detention facilities as needed.

Education: Graduation from an accredited school of medicine is required.
Residency: Completion of a residency approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education is required. A copy of the certificate of completion of residency

Certification: Possession of a valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate is required. A copy of the DEA certificate must be submitted with the application.
Experience: Six (6) months of full-time experience teaching residents and/or medical students. (Teaching experience gained while completing residency hours is qualifying.)

months of full-time experience working in a behavioral health specialty clinic/area (e.g., outpatient forensics, correctional mental health services, Clozaril, diversion programs, quality improvement, or informatics).
Experience must be gained within a public or private behavioral health or healthcare organization to be considered qualifying.Applicants fluent in American Sign Language, Arabic, Korean, Mandarin, Spanish and/or Vietnamese are strongly encouraged to apply. Additional compensation is associated with positions requiring the use of bilingual skills. Testing of bilingual skills may be required to receive additional compensation.
The ideal candidate will be certified as a Diplomate by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. (Candidates who are certified should submit a copy of their certificate with the application). Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills and have experience collaborating in multidisciplinary treatment teams and developing strong relationships with community providers. Experience leading a team of Psychiatrists who work with the seriously mentally ill, eating disorders, under-served populations, and with adults, children and adolescents, and the forensic population is highly desirable.
