The Utilities Operations Specialist 3 (UOS3) is a skilled technical role involving specialized testing, maintenance, and repair of utility systems, equipment, lines, or devices. Employees in this class perform routine and preventive maintenance on a variety of utility systems and devices. Duties may include supervising skilled and semi-skilled employees, and work is performed in accordance with established procedures, but requires initiative and independent judgment.
This is an excellent opportunity to bring utility maintenance experience into a mid-level career ladder role. There are future opportunities to advance to a Utilities Operations Specialist 4 (UOS4), supervisor, or manager roles.
What Will You Do?
Lead person of a small to medium-sized construction crew installing, maintaining, and repairing water, sewer, and reclaimed systems.
Performs and directs visual inspection of sewer lines and systems.
Installs clean-outs, repairs, and replaces sewer infrastructures.
Operates equipment and vehicles.
Respond to emergencies (stoppages, overflows, etc.)
Maintain records and reports.
Performs other related work as assigned or required.
What Do You Need?
High school diploma or GED and 4 years of skilled utilities field experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker endorsement upon hire, with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Administration (MVA) driving report.
Possession of a Wastewater Level 3 (previously a Level C) or higher Wastewater Certification.
Possession and maintenance of Temporary Traffic Control Certification within 9 months of hire/promotion date.
Assignment to work a variety of work schedules, including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
Candidate may be required to perform manual labor for extended periods occasionally in adverse weather conditions.
Highly Desirable
Ability to operate medium to large excavating equipment.
Working knowledge of GIS mapping systems for sewer infrastructure.
