Starting Salary Range is $45,219.20 - $47,525. The initial salary offer is commensurate with education and related work experience.

This position will oversee and manage the library serials, provide special project assistance to the Lee College Librarians, and provide evening and weekend reference assistance. The position will be involved managing, processing, and digitizing archival collections and materials to meet the library’s outreach and instruction objectives.Serials Management:
  • Performs daily operations in the Serials Department and the overall successful availability of all journals.
  • Under supervision of the Library Director, assists in managing the serials portion of the collections budget, and ensuring serials subscription costs stay within budgetary limits.
  • Assesses and analyzes the serials collection on an ongoing basis to inform yearly renewal and selection decisions.
  • Activates and maintains serials records in the WMS library services platform.
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with vendors to negotiate license agreements and pricing of serials subscriptions, and to establish and ensure consistent access to serials holdings across multiple platforms. Collaborates with the Library Director in vendor negotiations as needed.
  • Assists the Library Technician II: Circulation Coordinator with link checking, access troubleshooting,link resolver and authentication management in coordination with the Innovation & E-Resources Librarian.
  • Markets journal collection titles to users and educates users about access options and troubleshooting tips.
Archival Processing and Preservation:
  • Managesdaily maintenance andprocessing of Lee College Carlson Library’s unprocessed archival materials under the supervision of the Library Director.
  • Ensuring materials are properly organized, described, preserved, and made accessible to Lee College departments, researchers and the public according to professional archival standards.
  • Assesses the physical condition of materials, identifying conservation needs, and implementing preservation treatments.
  • Ensures proper storage, maintenance, and security of archival collections.
  • Ensures maintenance and preservation of archival materials in keeping with accepted professional archival and library best practices, in accordance with local guidelines and national professional archival standards.
  • Organizes materials (documents, manuscripts, photographs and negatives, bound volumes, publications, audiovisual formats) according to professional archival standards and creating detailed descriptions, including finding aids and EAD-encoded materials for specialized software to manage and display them for digital access.

Archival Digitization&Metadata Creation:
  • Coordinate the digitization, metadata creation and online access of archival materials (documents, manuscripts, photographs and negatives, bound volumes, publications, audiovisual formats) Lee College archival materials and collections following professional standards and institutional best practices.
  • Establish efficient and effective project workflows and standards to ensure the safety andsecurity of collections while on site for digitization.
  • Oversee and perform in-house digitization of original archival collections; ensure quality of master images, edit images as needed, and create derivate images for access purposes.
  • Oversee the creation of item-level descriptive metadata for various original archival materials (documents, manuscripts, photographs and negatives, bound volumes, publications, audiovisual materials) following professional standards and library best practices.
  • Creates and managesdigitalcurationactivities for Lee College Erma Wood Carlson Library’s digitized and born digital archival materials toincludecreationof preservation andaccessimages, file naming, file type(s), image quality,collection and item level metadata.
  • Serve as the disseminator of Lee College’s digitized archival material to the Portal to Texas History at North Texas State University.
  • Assist in the training of student assistants and interns for digitization projects.
Special Projects Assistant:
  • Assists the ILS Technical Service Librarian in any extra-large copy cataloging projects.
  • Assists the Instruction/Liaison Librarian by maintaining the quality of the LibGuides.
  • Assists the Innovation and E-Resources Librarian in maintaining the quality of the Library Homepage.
  • Has selector responsibilities for assigned liaison departments.
  • Conduct occasional library instruction in the evening.
  • Provides reference services to students, faculty, and the general public on the weekends and evenings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Associate’s (or higher) degree or sixty (60) college credithours equivalent.
  • Experience maintaining serials in an integrated library system.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software programs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be available to work evenings and weekends.

PREFERRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s (or higher) degreewith a minor in Museum Studies, Archival Studies, or currently enrolled in an ALA accredited Library & Information Science Graduate Program with completed library science degree within two (2) years of starting this position.
  • Working knowledge of reference databases including use of traditional print and online resources.
  • Work experience in an archival setting (such as museum, archives, historical society, etc.).
  • Experience with or a strong interest in learning archival digitization standards
  • Experience working in an academic library strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of digital flatbed scanners, and digital film scanners.
