Position Summary:
The City of Prescott Department of Public Works is seeking an experienced, knowledgeable and collaborative professional for the City's Wastewater Division, in the position of Senior Utility Worker - Wastewater Collections. Under general supervision of the Wastewater Collection Supervisor(s), the ideal candidate will lead a two-person crew working as a team on Wastewater Collection daily operations & maintenance assignments.
Essential Duties:
- Leads wastewater operations & maintenance crew(s) on daily assignments
- Ensures projects are adequately completed on time
- Addresses operational issues/questions; responds to customer complaints and inquiries
- Operates various types of equipment including CCTV, jet rodder, combination jet/vac, steel rodder, crane/service truck, easement machine, backhoe, dump truck, and pickup truck; utilizes hand tools including jack hammers, whackers, digging bars, and shovels
- Performs minor repairs on equipment and schedules repairs with Fleet Maintenance; checks and maintains fluid levels, lubricates and refuels equipment as necessary
- Performs a variety of manual and semi-skilled activities associated with wastewater line maintenance and repair including locating wastewater lines and breaks
- Excavating and replacing sections of streets, curbs, driveways, and sidewalks
- Removing and replacing landscaping in yards and right-of-way; installing and tapping sewer lines;
- Assumes responsibility for job site safety in compliance with OSHA and City safety standards
- Performs all other related duties, including data entry in the City's Computer Maintenance Management System as required to complete daily activities
Qualifications and Experience:
Education and/or Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent and experience equivalent to two (2) years in operations and maintenance of a wastewater collection system, including operating equipment such as a jet rodder, steel rodder, combination jet/vac, CCTV, crane/service truck, backhoe and forklift.
Licensing, Certification, and Other Requirements:
Must possess an Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) Grade II Wastewater Collection System Operator Certification or have the ability to obtain within one (1) year of being placed in the position. Must possess a Class B Arizona Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with tanker endorsement. The successful candidate will possess leadership and technical skills to provide direction and guidance to the team.

- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions for operating assigned equipment

- Knowledge of basic preventive maintenance on assigned equipment
- Skill in operating and maintaining a variety of specialized equipment used in the operation & maintenance of wastewater systems
- Skill in understanding and following oral and written instructions
- Skill in accurately documenting daily work tasks
- Skill in utilizing customer service techniques in responding to requests and complaints
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships
- Ability sufficient to clearly concisely and effectively communicate in person, utilizing two-way radio systems and over the telephone
Physical Demands And Working Conditions:
- Sufficient to safely perform required duties and to safely operate required equipment and City vehicles as needed
- must be able to see clearly, with correction if necessary, during both day and night, and in potentially adverse weather conditions
- must possess ability to perform manual labor for extended periods of time and capable of lifting 60 pounds frequently with a maximum of 100 pounds
