Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Tax Litigation Attorney with a minimum of 5 years of experience in tax controversy and criminal and civil tax litigation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in representing clients before the IRS, U.S. Tax Court, and other relevant forums.
Key Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in IRS audits, appeals, and collection matters.
- Handle civil and criminal tax litigation, including trials and administrative proceedings.
- Develop legal strategies for resolving complex tax disputes.
- Prepare and file motions, pleadings, and other legal documents.
- Conduct legal research and provide written analyses on various tax controversy matters.
- Advise clients on potential tax liabilities and defense strategies.
- Negotiate settlements with taxing authorities.
- Stay updated on federal and state tax laws and regulations.
Qualifications:
- Active member in good standing with Michigan State Bar; additional admission to the U.S. Tax Court preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in tax controversy and civil/criminal tax litigation.
- Strong understanding of IRS administrative procedures and tax court practice.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines effectively.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills:
- LLM in Taxation.
- Experience with offshore voluntary disclosures and FBAR issues.
- Background in white-collar criminal defense is a plus.
