Title: Tax Manager – State and Local Tax (SALT)

Carolina PRG is proud to partner with a dynamic and well-respected Head of Tax to support the growth of a high-performing tax department. One of the first key hires is a State and Local Tax (SALT) Senior—a subject matter expert who will provide strategic guidance and technical expertise across a wide range of state and local tax issues.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a SALT professional to take on a highly visible, impactful role within a growing financial services organization.


Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review federal and state corporate income tax returns, estimated payments, and extensions.
  • Support quarterly and annual income tax provision processes under ASC 740, including deferred tax calculations and supporting workpapers.
  • Assist with tax audits by gathering documentation, responding to inquiries, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Research and interpret federal and state tax laws, regulations, and rulings to ensure compliance and identify planning opportunities.
  • Maintain and reconcile income tax accounts and deferred tax balances.
  • Assist in developing and implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in tax reporting.
  • Collaborate with finance and accounting teams to ensure accurate data for tax filings and provisions.
  • Support special projects such as M&A due diligence, tax planning initiatives, and legal entity rationalization.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA or Master’s in Taxation strongly preferred
  • 1-5+ years of relevant SALT experience, ideally in public accounting or a large corporate tax environment
  • Strong technical knowledge of multistate income/franchise and sales/use tax
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment


Preferred Skills & Tools

  • Proficiency in ONESOURCE, Checkpoint, and other tax research tools
  • Strong analytical and tax research capabilities
  • Deep understanding of state and local tax laws and regulatory frameworks
  • High level of proficiency with Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
