Senior Staff Statutory Accountant

Job Description:

Position Description: This is a hybrid position located in Milwaukee Wisconsin. You would be expected to be on site M-TH and work remotely on Friday. Pay rate is based on experience but between $45-$60 per hour.

Our client is seeking a Senior Staff Accountant to partner closely with the Director of Accounting in driving efficiency, accuracy, and continuous improvement across financial planning, processing, and reporting functions.

This role offers a blend of technical accounting, financial analysis, and project-based work, requiring a high level of ownership, initiative, and attention to detail. The ideal candidate is comfortable making independent decisions, managing multiple priorities, and contributing to strategic initiatives that impact the organization.

• Strong understanding of financial statements and accounting principles
• Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
• High attention to detail with strong analytical capabilities
• Self-starter with a sense of urgency and ability to work independently or on a team
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel required); ability to learn new systems

Responsibilities:

• Prepare and analyze financial statements
• Manage audit support, account reconciliations, and policy accounting
• Research and apply accounting regulations for compliance and special scenarios
• Oversee accounting and reporting for the organization’s charitable foundation
• Review financial reports for accuracy, completeness, and consistency
• Partner on regulatory and tax reporting efforts
• Lead or support special projects from inception through completion
• Collaborate cross-functionally and communicate financial insights clearly

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• 5–10 years of progressive accounting experience
• Experience in financial services or insurance is a plus
• CPA or CPA candidate strongly preferred

Pay Range:

The anticipated pay range for this position is $45-$60 per hour, based on experience
