We are looking for an experienced Manufacturing Tooling Engineer to support the development and launch of automotive interior systems. This role will lead the engineering and implementation of secondary manufacturing equipment, fixtures, and assembly processes, ensuring successful program launches while meeting quality, timing, and cost objectives.
The ideal candidate combines strong tooling expertise with hands-on manufacturing experience and the ability to collaborate with suppliers, customers, and production facilities throughout North America.
Main functions to develop:
- Lead the planning, design review, procurement, and implementation of secondary assembly equipment and production fixtures for new vehicle programs.
- Coordinate tooling and equipment activities with suppliers to ensure adherence to project timing, budget, and quality targets.
- Support equipment commissioning, validation, and production readiness activities through PPAP and launch phases.
- Participate in technical reviews with customers and internal program teams to ensure manufacturing requirements are incorporated early in product development.
- Evaluate product designs and provide recommendations to improve manufacturability, process capability, and operational efficiency.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on productivity, quality, and cost reduction.
- Identify and implement process enhancements related to equipment, materials, manufacturing methods, and facility capabilities.
- Provide technical support to production plants in resolving process, tooling, and quality-related issues.
- Support quotation activities by reviewing equipment concepts, tooling assumptions, and manufacturing feasibility.
- Participate in sourcing decisions and supplier evaluations for tooling and automation projects.
- Review tooling proposals and assist with commercial negotiations involving equipment costs and engineering changes.
- Ensure manufacturing equipment and fixtures comply with corporate safety standards and applicable regulations.
- Promote safe equipment design and risk mitigation throughout project execution.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in tooling, fixture design, automation equipment, or manufacturing engineering within the automotive industry.
- Proven experience supporting launches of automotive interior components such as instrument panels, floor consoles, door panels, or hard trim systems.
- Strong knowledge of secondary manufacturing operations, including:
- Heat staking
- Sonic welding
- Hot plate and infrared welding
- Punching and trimming operations
- Edge wrapping
- Vacuum forming
- Experience managing tooling suppliers and equipment build programs.
- Strong project management, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
Preferred requirements:
- Working knowledge of PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley and Siemens.
- Experience with HMI development and troubleshooting, including:
- FactoryTalk View
- RSView
- WinCC
- Ignition
- Familiarity with industrial communication networks, including:
- DeviceNet
- ControlNet
- Modbus
- Profibus
- AS-i
- Experience supporting or modifying automation programs using:

Travel percentage & details:
- Travel within North America is required to support manufacturing plants, suppliers, and program launch activities.
- Estimated travel commitment: 30%.
