Our Houston client is seeking a Planner Scheduler for their office in Houston, TX. This position will be required to travel to Billings, Montana, in support of the project. GREAT PAY AND PER-DIEM!


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 8 years of experience in scheduling for small to mid-sized downstream projects.
  • Demonstrates ability to independently consolidate and analyze information from various sources to develop effective overall project schedules.
  • Technical competency in the preparation of automated and integrated project controls.
  • Minimum 3 years of field scheduling experience.
  • In this position, you will plan and schedule the project from FEL through the Execution phase and Commissioning phase.
  • This role will support Turnaround and require 5-10 years of experience in an oil refinery, with TA experience preferred.
  • You will work with the Project Management Team and Project Discipline Leads to obtain project status.
  • You will establish and develop project logic, networks, schedules, and risk management data; forecast; perform earned value, schedule variance analysis, and schedule quality checks.
  • You will liaise with the Project Controls Manager and the Project Manager to ensure optimal utilization of information and manpower to meet the project completion date.

Responsibilities

  • Originate and update an integrated project cost-and-schedule system.
  • Write procedures and instructions for the preparation and maintenance of project plans and schedules.
  • Identify all project activities and develop logic using the precedence diagram method (PDM).
  • Prepare procedures for project control reporting, including risk assessment and earned value.
  • Program logic to include project benchmarks for the duration of the project.
  • Organize and facilitate risk assessment interviews at the direction of the Project Control Manager.
  • Construct logical network modifications to facilitate risk mitigation and contingency planning.
  • Maintain the integrated schedule that reflects the relationships and interdependencies among the engineering, procurement, and construction functions.
  • Reviewing schedule, progress, and productivity of contractors, monitor and verify monthly earned value.
  • Ensuring everything is on time to meet the project's deadlines in the Execution Phase.

  • Monitors actual progress and comparison to baseline, and reports the analysis, against the schedule, to the project manager and Functional Managers to enable sound decision-making to maintain or improve the project schedule.
  • Consolidate information from Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Project Management and Project Discipline Lead to develop project schedules (baseline time-phased schedules with appropriate constraints) and Work Breakdown Structures (WBS) for assigned projects.
  • Participate in weekly Schedule Reviews to ensure that schedule requirements are being met. Meets with Engineering, Procurement, Project Management, and Project Discipline Leads to obtain project status (e.g., engineering deliverables, procurement delivery schedules, installation start dates, etc.) in order to update the project schedule.
  • Prepare Earned Value and variance reports for the Project Plan. Program approved recovery or work-around plans. Interface with the Contractors Planning and Scheduling Specialists to ensure that task data is incorporated into the integrated project schedule.
  • Will coordinate with the Contractor and lead planning-oriented meetings with disciplines, engineers, and project management that will highlight and report status on upcoming project milestone events.

Education & Competencies

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or other equivalent experience, i.e., mathematics, statistics, or project administration.
  • Knowledge of Project Controls, Planning and Scheduling, Progress Measurement (Earned Value).
  • Proficiency in the use of project planning software, Primavera version 6; MS Project.
  • Demonstrates effective organization and project planning skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities in a fast paced.
  • Demonstrable ability to develop reports for and presentations to management.
  • Ability to work with Excel and build pivot tables, etc.
