Agios Pharmaceuticals is searching for a dynamic Senior Regional Business Director (RBD) to join our growing US Sales team. We want someone who cares about this important work, and who’s driven to connect to our mission of helping these patient communities.
The Sr. RBD is a first line, field-based leadership role responsible for building, coaching, and leading a team of Sickle Cell Specialists (SCS). This leader sets the tone for how we show up in the SCD community through trust, consistency, scientific credibility, and partnership.
The Sr. RBD will have the opportunity to build, lead, and develop their team with the goal of raising awareness of Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) and preparing the system for long-term success in anticipation of the potential future approval of Mitapivat for SCD.
This role requires a hands-on, player coach mindset someone who can lead from the front when needed, coach deeply in the field, and model the behaviors expected of the team.
What you will do:
- Fosters a patient-centric culture of high-performance, accountability, collaboration, compliance, and fun.
- Create an environment that balances autonomy with clear expectations, frequent coaching, and continuous development Develop regional business plans grounded in market insight, account prioritization, and realistic execution plans
- Effectively manage regional operating budgets, provide expense management guidance to SCS and ensure corporate expense policy is followed.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, coach, and develop SCS within region.
- Spend meaningful time in the field providing live coaching, modeling effective customer engagement, and reinforcing standards. Act as a player coach as needed engaging directly with key accounts, academic centers, and KOLs to support the team and advance the business
- Be an expert in the clinical data of the product and coach the team to confidently and compliantly communicate complex science.
- Build individual development plans for each member of your team and actively develop SCS for additional responsibilities and future roles.
- Provide mid-year and year-end reviews, evaluate performance, assign merit increases and implement performance improvement plans for SCS.
- Interface with internal Commercial Team to provide feedback and input for development of sales and marketing plans.
- Personally develop strong relationships with KOLs, physicians, academic centers, and other key market stakeholders.
- Demonstrate leadership by serving as a visible role model of Agios’ values and ways of working.
- Recommend and administer policies and procedures that enhance business operations, analytics, and field effectiveness

What you bring:
- Strong and authentic interest in helping patients.
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline; graduate degree is preferred. Equivalent combination of education and applicable job experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 8+ years’ successful sales experience with demonstrated sales leadership within the (bio)pharmaceutical industry.
- Demonstrated success leading high performing sales team or serving as a player coach in complex launches
- Demonstrated ability to coach, develop, and inspire teams while holding high standards in ambiguous environment
- Strong leadership, interpersonal and organizational skills and communication skills.
- Proven experience exceeding patient-centric revenue goals.
- Ability to navigate complexity, prioritize effectively, and adapt as the market evolves.
- Excellent collaboration skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to multi-task and manage complexity.

- Ability and willingness to perform face-to-face work with colleagues and customers
Travel Requirements:
Travel will average 75% within the West region with significant time spent in the field coaching and supporting SCS team members.

Location Specific – Field/Remote: This is a remote based field leadership position. Employees must reside within their designated region. Regular in-person engagement with team members and customers is an expectation of the role

- Competitive and equitable performance-based compensation. This includes base salary and both short- and long-term incentives that are connected to our business strategy and vary based on individual and company performance.
- The current base salary range for this position at the Sr. Regional Business Director level is expected to be between $206,000 and $309,000 annualized; final salary will be determined based on various factors including, but not limited to, years of relevant experience, job knowledge, skills and proficiency, degree/education, and internal comparators.
