Five Star is seeking a highly analytical, results-driven Senior Purchasing Manager to oversee and optimize strategic sourcing strategies for key spending categories. Reporting directly to the Procurement Director, you will be responsible for managing internal stakeholder and supplier relationships, negotiating high-value contracts, mitigating supply chain risks, and executing cost-reduction initiatives. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in industrial or manufacturing procurement, has flexible packaging or related experience, and the ability to influence stakeholders and leverage data to drive commercial value in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.


DESCRIPTION


  • Category Strategy Development: Create, execute, and maintain comprehensive, multi-year category strategies that align with corporate financial goals and operational requirements leveraging overall Five Star businesses’ spend.
  • Strategic Sourcing & Negotiation: Lead the end-to-end RFx process, evaluate commercial proposals, and negotiate complex corporate agreements to secure optimal pricing, quality, and service levels.
  • Supplier Relationship Management (SRM): Establish KPIs and scorecards to monitor supplier performance, conduct regular business reviews, and foster collaborative partnerships to drive continuous improvement and innovation while evaluating changes to the supplier base.
  • Cost Management & Value Creation: Identify and execute total cost reduction opportunities focusing on lost levers as part of category strategies.
  • Risk Mitigation: Proactively identify macro-economic, geopolitical, and supply chain risks; develop robust business continuity and multi-sourcing plans to ensure uninterrupted supply.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, Logistics, and Quality teams to ensure category strategies meet the technical and operational needs of all business units.
  • Ensure compliance with Safety, Food Safety, Quality, and Good Housekeeping practices in all activities.
  • Maintain and update supplier and pricing information, including contact details, pricing agreements, and contracts.
  • Collaborate with internal departments to identify material needs and resolve supply chain issues.
  • Conduct other duties as assigned by management.

  • Bilingual /Proficiency in Spanish is a strong advantage.


EXPERIENCE


  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Procurement, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, or sales, preferably within manufacturing or packaging sectors.
  • Knowledge of supplier management, inventory control, and strategic sourcing.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
  • Possible travel for vendor meetings or site visits.


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed primarily in an office setting, but may require occasional visit to the manufacturing floor, which may involve exposure to loud noises, machinery, high temperatures and chemicals.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
