Senior Precision Grinding Specialist (Manual & CNC)
The Mission
In our shop, the grinder is the "Final Arbitrator." You are the person who takes high-value steel components and brings them to their final, perfect state. We aren't looking for a production operator; we are looking for a specialist who has "the feel" for manual grinding but can also navigate automated systems when the job calls for it.
If you understand that a mold lives or dies by the quality of its shut-offs and the squareness of its blocks, we want you in our grinding department.
What You’ll Be Doing
- The Manual Standard: Perform high-precision manual surface grinding on cores, cavities, and inserts. You are the master of the "tenth" and the "half-tenth."
- Critical Fitting: Grind and fit complex shut-offs and parting lines where light-tight fits are the only acceptable outcome.
- Squaring & Pre-Work: Hold "dead-nuts" squareness and parallelism on blocks before they move to EDM or Hard Milling.
- Automated Precision: Set up and operate automated/CNC surface or profile grinders for larger runs or complex geometries without sacrificing an ounce of quality.
- Wheel Mastery: Select and dress the perfect wheel for the material—whether it’s soft P20 or hardened 60+ HRC S7/H13.
The Profile of a Specialist
- Manual "Touch": You have extensive experience with manual surface grinders. You know how to compensate for heat, wheel wear, and machine harmonics by feel and sound.
- Tolerance Obsession: You are bored by anything larger than +/- 0.0002''. You live comfortably in the +/- 0.0001'' range.
- Tooling Fluency: Expert use of sine plates, magnetic chucks, dressing tools, and precision inspection equipment (indicators, micrometers, etc.).
- Material IQ: You know how different tool steels react to the stone and how to prevent burning or stress-cracking in high-value inserts.
- The "Finisher" Mindset: You take pride in a surface finish that looks like a mirror and functions like a Swiss watch.
Why Join Our Team?
- Quality Over Quantity: We don't rush the grinding process. We know that precision takes patience, and we provide the environment to do it right.
- The Environment: A clean, climate-controlled shop in Salt Lake City where the equipment is maintained to the highest standards.
- Respect for the Trade: We know that even in a CNC world, the manual grinder is the backbone of a true mold shop.
- Benefits: Premium pay for premium skills, full health/dental/vision, and a 401(k) match.
The "Micron" Test
We are looking for the person other machinists go to when a part is "impossible" to hit. If you’re the one who can find a way to grind a compound angle on a tiny insert while holding a tolerance thinner than a red blood cell, we have a machine waiting for you.
