Senior Piping Designer
Location: Houston, TX 77002 (On-Site)
Position Summary
The Senior Piping Designer is responsible for supporting the design, drafting, and execution of plant, pipeline, and facility projects from concept through construction. This role develops engineering deliverables, coordinates project stakeholders, and provides technical expertise to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain engineering deliverables including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), equipment layouts, facility plot plans, and equipment/instrument lists.
- Assign equipment, instrument, valve, and piping line numbers and maintain record drawings.
- Resolve design and drawing development issues and implement revisions as required.
- Support the development of project scopes, engineering/design scopes, and construction scopes of work.
- Participate in project meetings to gather requirements, define scope, and provide technical design recommendations.
- Assist with project scheduling, man-hour estimates, and design package reviews to support efficient project execution.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Engineers, Procurement, Vendors, Inspectors, and Construction Contractors throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepare material take-offs, parts lists, material data sheets, and material requisitions for procurement activities.
- Communicate with vendors regarding material specifications, pricing, and availability.
- Maintain project documentation and records related to technical design issues and correspondence.
- Support the development and maintenance of company drafting standards, specifications, and procedures.
- Generate Pre-Assessment Letters (PALs) for in-service weld approvals when required.
- Provide drafting support for operational projects and coordinate activities with CADD personnel.
- Mentor team members and promote the effective use of design tools, standards, and best practices.
Qualifications
- Experience in piping and facility design within oil & gas, pipeline, petrochemical, or industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of PFDs, P&IDs, plot plans, equipment layouts, and construction drawings.
- Experience performing material take-offs, developing material requisitions, and supporting procurement activities.
- Understanding of engineering design standards, construction practices, and project execution processes.
- Strong communication, organizational, and stakeholder coordination skills.
- Ability to support projects through design, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
