Senior PIC Design Engineer

Bay Area | $200,000 – $300,000 + Bonus & Shares

Overview

We’re hiring a Senior Photonic Integrated Circuit Design Engineer to lead the development of advanced PIC building blocks that power next-generation optical systems.

In this role, you will work across device, circuit, and system layers—partnering closely with photonics, electronics, and systems teams to take concepts from simulation through validation and integrated bring-up.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Architect, design, simulate, and validate key PIC components such as modulators, filters, and photodetectors.
  • Create analytical and behavioral models of photonic devices to support co-simulation with electronic circuits.
  • Contribute to the integration and lab bring-up of combined photonic-electronic ICs.
  • Drive performance optimization through collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Develop and maintain automated simulation and analysis workflows using tools such as Python or MATLAB.

What You Bring

  • Demonstrated expertise in photonic device design and photonic integrated circuit development.
  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline — or an MS with 5+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Deep understanding of optical transceiver architectures and system-level design constraints.
  • Hands-on experience with PIC layout, simulation tools, and device modeling methodologies.
  • Strong working knowledge of Cadence and mixed-signal simulation environments.
  • A self-driven mindset with the ability to own complex technical deliverables.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to cross-functional development.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $200,000 – $300,000
  • Performance-based bonus eligibility
  • Short and long-term incentive plans
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, life, and disability insurance
