Senior Payroll Specialist

Direct Hire | Onsite | Wilmington, DE Area

Compensation: $80,000 – $90,000 + Discretionary Bonus


A growing organization is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist to support high-volume, multi-state payroll operations in a fast-paced environment. This role offers strong visibility, a collaborative team, and a clear path for growth into leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process in-house, full-cycle payroll for a high-volume, multi-state employee population, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
  • Manage payroll updates including new hires, terminations, pay changes, garnishments, W-4s, and I-9s
  • Handle payroll tax filings (daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly) in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
  • Maintain accurate payroll records, reporting, and documentation for audits and internal tracking
  • Support audit processes by gathering and preparing required payroll documentation
  • Partner with HR and internal teams to ensure smooth payroll operations and employee support
  • Assist with team training and mentorship, serving as a go-to resource for payroll-related questions


Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full-cycle, in-house payroll experience in a high-volume environment
  • Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll, tax compliance, and garnishments
  • Experience processing payroll for large employee populations (1,000+ preferred)
  • Construction industry experience strongly preferred; union payroll experience is a plus
  • Proficiency with payroll systems (experience with Viewpoint is a plus) and advanced Excel skills
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, or related field preferred; CPP certification a plus
