Job Duties and Responsibilities

Candidates must be willing to participate in at least one in-person interview, which may include a live whiteboarding or technical assessment session.

 

This role is responsible for ensuring the absolute stability and performance of a mission-critical production data center that supports spacecraft operations. The primary challenge involves managing high-stakes network environments where downtime has significant operational consequences. By implementing infrastructure-as-code and advanced fault management, this position solves the problem of scaling complex network systems while maintaining the agility required for aerospace engineering.

What Success Looks Like (Objectives)
  • Resolve complex faults and maintain high-performance standards within mission-critical production data center environments

  • Drive the evolution of infrastructure automation to minimize outage times and improve system reliability

  • Lead multi-disciplinary projects to modernize storage and network infrastructure in alignment with departmental OKRs

  • Integrate AI-driven monitoring tools to recognize and resolve data trends before they impact spacecraft operations or engineering teams

  • Execute seamless hardware and software upgrades that satisfy rigorous mission-critical performance requirements

  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate data center documentation to ensure operational continuity across the engineering organization

  • Create and execute strategies for system and network backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity to maintain uninterrupted spacecraft operations.

  • Partner with RF specialists to oversee and uphold ground station network infrastructure, ensuring fluid communication with spacecraft through a deep proficiency in satellite-based IP networking.

  • Collaborate with primary systems and network engineers to develop the expertise required to serve as a backup administrator for essential systems.

  • Identify and resolve fundamental software, network, and RF problems, utilizing escalation protocols when appropriate

  • Contribute to talent development by participating in hiring and onboarding, and providing occasional mentorship and task guidance to interns or junior engineers

  • Other duties may be assigned


Skills, Experience and Requirements

Core Skills and Competencies (What you’ll bring)
  • Advanced proficiency in administering networking routers, switches, and firewalls within a high-security enterprise environment

  • Deep understanding of data center networking concepts, including OSI model layers, routing protocols, and information security

  • Mastery of infrastructure-as-code and configuration management tools to streamline network deployment and operations

  • AI Literacy to interpret complex telemetry data and implement predictive maintenance strategies for the network

  • Professional expertise in Linux distributions and script development to optimize system-level performance

  • Strong collaborative leadership and communication skills to manage stakeholders across spacecraft operations and engineering

Additional Qualifications
  • Familiarity with cloud-native architecture and GitOps pipelines

  • Experience with clustered storage systems and SAN environments

Minimum Requirements
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline (or equivalent experience)

Minimum Experience: 5+ year of related experience in network engineering Required Technical Skills:

  • Experience with routers, switches, and firewalls (Cisco, Tipping Point, Palo Alto)
  • Proficiency in routing protocols (EIGRP, BGP, OSPF)
  • Scripting or software development (Python, GoLang, or Java)
  • Configuration management (SALT, Chef, Puppet, or Ansible)
  • Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident) as position requires access to U.S. export-restricted materials
  • Ability to participate in 24/7 on-call duties

Working conditions

  • Position requires work in/near a normal office environment adjacent to 24/7 operations and equipment data centers with possible: electrical shock, radiation, vibration, and computer/equipment noise exposure
  • Typically works M-F normal business hours, but must be able to support work and on-call duties during off hours, weekends, and holidays as dictated by the needs of a 24x7 operation. Up to 10% travel.
  • The role necessitates regular physical activity, including walking, sitting, and reaching, alongside the ability to handle computer hardware, maintain hand-eye coordination, and perform tasks involving climbing, balancing, kneeling, or crawling. Additionally, employees must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and utilize senses such as hearing and smell to ensure operational safety

Salary Ranges

Compensation: $96,250.00/Year - $137,500.00/Year

The base pay range shown is a guideline. Individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, and competencies; compensation is based on the role's location and is subject to change based on work location.
