Role/Responsibilities
- We are seeking a Natural Gas Treatment Engineer to define, specify, and validate fuel gas treatment solutions for natural gas fired reciprocating engines and gas turbines used in power generation applications.
- This role serves as the technical authority for fuel quality, working closely with engine and turbine OEMs, EPCs, and gas treatment vendors to ensure that delivered fuel gas consistently meets OEM requirements for reliable, compliant, and efficient operation across a wide range of gas sources, including pipeline gas, associated gas, and field gas.
Key Responsibilities
- Fuel Specification & OEM Interface
- Act as the primary technical interface with engine and turbine OEMs to interpret and apply fuel gas specifications for power generation applications.
- Translate OEM fuel requirements into clear, enforceable gas treatment specifications for project execution.
- Review OEM deviations, waivers, and fuel flexibility limits; provide technical recommendations and risk assessments.
- Gas Quality Assessment & Treatment Design
- Analyze natural gas compositions and contaminants, including:
- H₂S, total sulfur, CO₂
- Moisture / water dew point
- Heavy hydrocarbons (C₅+, BTX)
- Particulates, liquids, compressor oil carryover
- Siloxanes, mercury (where applicable)
- Determine required gas treatment technologies, such as:
- Filtration and coalescing
- Dehydration (glycol or desiccant)
- Acid gas removal (H2S, CO2, etc.)
- Hydrocarbon dew point control
- Fuel gas heating, pressure regulation, and conditioning
- Define treatment needs specific to reciprocating engines vs gas turbines, accounting for combustion sensitivity, valve durability, turbine hot section protection, and emissions performance.
- System Specification & Integration
- Develop fuel gas treatment scope documents, datasheets, and performance requirements for procurement and EPC execution.
- Ensure proper integration of gas treatment systems with:
- Engine or turbine fuel systems
- SCR and emissions control systems
- Safety systems and hazardous area classifications
- Support HAZOPs, design reviews, and risk assessments related to fuel gas quality.
- Create specifications, procedures, installation instructions, test documents, etc.
- Use Various systems and software tools including an internal Product Data Management system (for parts, assemblies, technical documentation), SAP (financial, MRP, supply chain), internal application tools, and Microsoft Office.
- Validation, Testing & Commissioning Support
- Review gas sampling plans, laboratory analyses, and acceptance criteria.
- Support FAT, SAT, commissioning, and startup to confirm fuel gas quality meets OEM and project requirements.
- Troubleshoot fuel related operational issues such as knock, misfire, turbine fouling, emissions excursions, or derates.
- Engage in hands-on interaction with the relevant equipment and systems.
- Cross Functional Collaboration
Work closely with:
- Power generation system engineers
- Controls and emissions specialists
- Mechanical and process engineers
- Field operations and commissioning teams
- Provide technical guidance to project teams on fuel gas risks, mitigation strategies, and lifecycle considerations.
- Proactively collaborate with other personnel engaged in equipment design, maintenance, and operation to ensure safe, reliable deployment of high-performance solutions meeting customer requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in natural gas treatment, fuel gas conditioning, or process engineering for power generation, oil & gas, or energy applications.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with reciprocating engine OEMs and/or gas turbine OEMs.
- Strong understanding of fuel gas impacts on combustion, emissions, and equipment durability.
- Experience interpreting gas analysis data and translating it into practical treatment requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with both reciprocating engines and aeroderivative or heavy duty gas turbines.
- Familiarity with OEM fuel specifications from major engine and turbine suppliers.
- Experience with field gas, associated gas, or variable quality gas sources.
- Knowledge of SCR and emissions control system interactions with fuel gas quality.
- Experience supporting projects from conceptual design through commissioning.

- Ability to communicate complex gas treatment requirements clearly to OEMs, vendors, and project teams.
- Comfortable acting as a technical authority while balancing cost, operability, and risk.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings and diagrams, electrical schematics, piping, and instrument drawings (P&IDs), flow charts and cause and effect diagrams.
- Willing to travel to active sites, customer offices, vendor offices, training/conference venues, and other Halliburton offices are required. This is typically 10-15% of available time. Travel for system deployment support may encompass weekends and holidays.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range Minimum: $40.00 per hour
Pay Range Maximum: $50.00 per hour

Compensation and Benefits
A candidate’s pay within the range will depend on their work location, skills, experience, education, and other factors permitted by law. This role may also be eligible for performance-based bonuses subject to company policies.
