Job Title: Senior Mechanical EngineerJob DescriptionThe Senior Mechanical Engineer designs, develops, and supports high-security electronic and mechanical lock systems for a variety of critical applications. You will interpret and create detailed engineering drawings, build 3D models in SolidWorks, and lead product development from concept through commercialization. This position offers a dynamic, fast-paced environment where you manage multiple projects, take ownership of technical outcomes, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative, reliable, and compliant security solutions.
Responsibilities
- Interpret and understand engineering blueprints and technical drawings for high-security lock components and systems.
- Create, update, and improve detailed engineering drawings for mechanical and electro-mechanical lock components.
- Use SolidWorks to build accurate 3D models from 2D prints and support CAD/CAM workflows.
- Design and develop electro-mechanical high-security locks, incorporating appropriate tolerances, material selections, and stress analysis while ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
- Lead product development activities from initial concept through prototyping, testing, validation, and commercialization.
- Integrate electronic and mechanical elements to create complete lock solutions that meet customer and application requirements.
- Support production operations by collaborating with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to optimize processes, resolve design-related issues, and troubleshoot production challenges.
- Provide field service support, including installations, repairs, diagnostics, and resolution of customer issues related to mechanical and electro-mechanical lock systems.
- Manage and support compliance testing and regulatory adherence for products in key security sectors.
- Conduct competitive market analysis to inform product enhancements and new product development in high-security applications.
- Collaborate closely with electrical engineers and cross-functional teams to integrate systems and resolve interdisciplinary design issues.
- Create, maintain, and manage engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, manuals, test data, and certification records.
- Analyze product and component failures, identify root causes, and develop design improvements and corrective actions.
- Develop and evaluate prototypes, oversee transition into manufacturing, and implement continuous improvement initiatives using methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or FMEA.
- Lead small project teams, manage project timelines and budgets, and coordinate tasks to ensure successful project delivery.
- Mentor junior engineers and team members, providing technical guidance and support.
- Work with suppliers to communicate technical requirements, review designs, and support sourcing of components and materials.
- Monitor industry trends, emerging security threats, and new technologies to drive innovation in materials, designs, and features for locks used in vaults, ATMs, and defense-related applications.
Essential Skills- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Approximately 7+ years of experience in mechanical or product design.
- Strong mechanical design experience with complex components and assemblies.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks for 3D modeling and CAD/CAM workflows.
- Ability to interpret and create detailed engineering blueprints and technical drawings.
- Experience in mechanical and electro-mechanical product design and development.
- Proficiency in CAD tools for design engineering and tool design.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high quality and accuracy.
- Strong analytical skills for stress analysis, tolerance analysis, and design validation.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and electrical engineering.
- Strong problem-solving skills for troubleshooting production and field issues.
- Effective communication skills for documentation, collaboration, and customer interactions.
- Ability to lead small teams and mentor junior engineers.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Experience with FMEA analysis for risk assessment and design robustness.
- Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma.
- Knowledge of materials, including metals and plastics, and their application in high-security products.
- Experience with compliance testing and regulatory standards in security-related products.
- Background in designing products for high-security applications such as vaults, ATMs, or defense-related systems.
- Experience in field service support, including installations, repairs, and diagnostics of mechanical or electro-mechanical systems.
- Experience coordinating with suppliers on technical requirements and component sourcing.
Work EnvironmentThis role is based in an office environment as part of a collaborative design team. Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. You will work primarily with SolidWorks and other CAD tools, partnering closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams. The environment is dynamic and fast-paced, with multiple concurrent projects focused on developing and supporting high-security mechanical and electro-mechanical lock products for diverse industries.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
