Senior Manufacturing Engineer (Tooling)

About the Role
The Tooling Engineer leads the design and production integration of molded components used in high-reliability wire and cable assemblies. This role works closely with customers to translate early concepts into practical, manufacturable solutions. Acting as a link between design and production, the Tooling Engineer ensures all products meet strict regulatory standards across MedTech (ISO 13485), aerospace (AS9100), and defense applications.
Responsibilities
- Oversee design, development, analysis, testing, and product assurance activities to meet customer expectations for cost, quality, performance, and schedule; maintain a hands-on presence connecting engineering designs to shop floor production.
- Define requirements and develop design concepts that align with contractual obligations, system specifications, industry standards, and sound engineering practices.
- Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models (SolidWorks/AutoCAD) for injection molds, overmolding, and connector components.
- Perform DFM/DFA reviews to improve manufacturability, optimize cable routing, connector interfaces, and molded strain reliefs for efficient production.
- Run Moldflow simulations to evaluate material flow, cooling behavior, and potential defects prior to tooling fabrication.
- Coordinate internal and external communications, ensuring project scope, timelines, and deliverables are clearly defined and achieved.
- Support sales teams during the RFQ process with technical expertise and collaborate directly with customers to solve complex design challenges.
- Identify and implement automation and process improvements to reduce cycle times and minimize waste in high-volume manufacturing.
- Stay current on industry trends and emerging technologies, advising leadership on new opportunities and innovations.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience with 3D molding software, mold tooling design, and operation of molding equipment for validation.
- Hands-on experience with Moldflow or similar simulation tools for tooling optimization.
- Proven track record implementing tooling solutions for injection molding operations.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical skills to address complex engineering challenges involving incomplete or conflicting requirements.
- Excellent communication abilities, with experience presenting technical information to customers and leadership.
- Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD tools.
- In-depth knowledge of injection molding processes, including insert molding for connectors.
- Solid understanding of statistical analysis to support testing, validation, and qualification of tooling, processes, and products.
