Position Summary:

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for leading manufacturing and process engineering activities to improve efficiency, quality, and safety in manufacturing operations. This role involves developing and optimizing production processes, implementing continuous improvement initiatives, reducing waste, and ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. The engineer collaborates closely with operations, quality, maintenance, and leadership teams to drive cost reduction, increase productivity, and support new product or process introductions while meeting business objectives.

This position will lead new and existing manufacturing technology projects, manage capital projects, develop new materials, and improve capability and standardization of processes. This position will also provide support to all areas of the business unit (Product Engineering Engineering; Maintenance; Manufacturing; Quality; etc.) where manufacturing technology expertise is required, including customer initiatives.


Key Responsabilities:

  • Develop manufacturing process designs and coordinate with tooling and equipment sources for construction & validation.
  • Drive standardization throughout plant by use of core competency teams, benchmarking, process standards and equipment checklists.
  • Lead problem solving initiatives.
  • Lead manufacturing feasibility studies.
  • Lead the Lean Manufacturing culture with short and long-term Continuous Improvement strategies and activities that develop, evaluate, and drive improvement in process methods and procedures.
  • Manage existing process/ product development projects and coordinate activities with various internal & external customers.
  • Develop technolgies to support new materials.
  • Manage the Capital Budget process for all site capital expenditures.
  • Analyze and plan workforce utilization, space requirements, workflow, design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency for existing and new projects while incorporating lean manufacturing principles
  • Build and maintain capacity models.
  • Create / participate and development of design and process FMEA’s, SOP’s, and APQP.
  • Work with tooling sources to verify tool and / or part construction.
  • Assist manufacturing in design and applications of gages and fixtures.
  • Provide technical direction to support functions, including shop floor and quality assurance personnel.
  • Support Cost Estimator with quotes, designs, VA/VE initiatives and technical presentations.
  • Keep abreast of emerging market technologies and discover methods to streamline department processes.
  • Prepare and present technical reports.
  • Create and maintain documentation required to implement print and customer requirements into documented procedures, including work instructions, and monitoring check sheets for operating processes.
  • Develop and track metrics related to improvement activities related to standard processes, improved flow, waste elimination, and improvement intitiatives.
  • Support and adhere to TNA’s EH&S, policies and procedures.
  • Support IATF16949, AS9100, ISO14001, Nadcap, and other applicable standards and policies.
  • Ability to travel in support of job function (plants, customers, suppliers etc.) Some overseas travel may be required.



Language Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Ability to prepare and deliver effective presentations to a wide variety of audiences including senior managers, customers and employee groups.
  • Ability to lead and function in a team environment while effectively communicating across various levels of the organization.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.


Technology Skills:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in all relevant manufacturing processes; possess the ability to troubleshoot/diagnose problems in each step of the process.
  • Process/application knowledge of processes currently utilized in Manufacturing is required. (i.e.machining, pressing, grinding, honing, tumble & polish, surface finish, heat treatment, packaging)
  • Working knowledge and application of Continuous Improvement Tools.
  • Possess hands-on technical knowledge of machine design, tooling, fixtures and machine elements.
  • Understanding of CNC machining & programming.
  • Knowledge and understanding of metal working and manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of fixture design, build and integration.
  • Knowledge and understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficiency with PC applications including CAD and computer-based engineering tools, spreadsheets, word processors, databases, presentation and flow-charting software.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years of Manufacturing Engineering work experience.
  • Program/project management experience required; leadership role preferred.
  • Extensive experience in tool and manufacturing process development with knowledge of CAD and functional expertise in application of GD&T required.
  • Metalurgical background and experinece preferred.
  • Experience working with Lean Manufacturing tools and teqniques.
