JOB SUMMARY
This position will fulfill the role of a paraprofessional Senior Library Information Specialist. The position works closely with the Digital Archivist/Managing Archivist to digitize items using a variety of scanners and methods. They will actively participate in the creation of metadata for collection upload and uploading these items into the digital archive. The position will be responsible for uploading items into the institutional repository at the direction of the collection development manager.

    3 years archival experience


JOB DUTIES

  • Performs duties independently and has primary responsibility for various Special Collections Library and University Archives operations and tasks.
  • Advises clients on questions in an accurate manner, either by telephone, e-mail, or in writing using knowledge found in the archival collections.
  • Identifies, rehouses, arranges, and describes archival materials. Consults with the archivists as needed.
  • Using DACS and other standards, creates and edits descriptive finding aids, catalogs items into the institutional repository, and deaccessions items from the catalog as needed.
  • Digitizes a wide variety of materials for digital preservation and access including photographs, books, and slides.
  • Identifies conservation needs and performs minor preservation tasks.
  • Creates original metadata of digital collections for upload into TIND DA or DSpace.
  • Participates in the planning and execution of unit projects-both cooperative and independent in nature.
  • Participates in professional development opportunities and works with the University Archivist to apply the skills and tools learned in daily tasks.
  • Participates in other duties as assigned.
