ADABAS Natural Programmer (Project Lead)

Employment: Long-Term Contract

Location: Columbia, SC (Primarily Remote with Occasional Onsite Requirements)

We are seeking an experienced ADABAS Natural Programmer to join a long-term technology initiative supporting enterprise-level financial and benefits systems. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned developer who enjoys working with legacy technologies, solving complex business challenges, and contributing to systems that support thousands of users.

This role is primarily remote, with occasional onsite meetings in Columbia, SC.


What You'll Do

Application Development & Maintenance

  • Develop, enhance, test, and maintain applications using Natural and ADABAS
  • Support critical financial, payroll, benefits, and retirement-related systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues
  • Participate in the full software development lifecycle, including:
  • Requirements analysis
  • Design
  • Development
  • Testing
  • Deployment
  • Ongoing support and maintenance


Collaboration & Problem Solving

  • Partner with business stakeholders and technical teams to understand requirements
  • Translate business needs into effective technical solutions
  • Provide guidance and recommendations for system improvements
  • Work closely with end users to support application enhancements


Documentation & Leadership

  • Create and maintain technical documentation
  • Share knowledge and mentor junior team members
  • Promote development best practices and coding standards
  • Assist with project leadership and technical direction when needed


Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of hands-on experience with:
  • Natural Programming
  • ADABAS Database
  • Experience using NaturalONE and/or Eclipse development environments
  • Strong experience supporting and troubleshooting production applications
  • Background working with financial, payroll, accounting, benefits, or retirement systems
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with JCL
  • Knowledge of batch processing and online transaction systems
  • Experience maintaining technical documentation
  • Familiarity with source control and software development best practices
  • Experience integrating legacy platforms with modern technologies
  • Prior experience supporting retirement or pension systems
