Amazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. We are looking for a passionate and talented Industrial Designer to help bring our products to the world.



Key job responsibilities
As a Senior Industrial Designer at Leo team, your mission will be to define and design innovative new product categories that delight and inspire our customers around the world. These consumer facing products include different outdoor antennas, WiFi routers and other related products. In this role, you will collaborate with product designers, engineers, researchers, business leaders and production teams. You will be part of defining Industrial Design, CMF and usability strategy for Leo. You will leverage your expertise in ideation, visualization, 3D modelling and manufacturing to find sophisticated design solutions for highly technically constrained products. You will take a user-centric approach towards concept development, build rapid prototypes, and collaborate with user researchers to test and iterate on your designs.

Key job responsibilities
• Demonstrate great design advocacy communication and collaboration skills with cross functional teams
• Produce concept sketches, 3D Renderings, and prototypes ranging from quick low fidelity models to high fidelity cosmetic or functional prototypes
• Execute and deliver CAD surfacing/parametric models
• Utilize user-centric thinking and good aesthetic sensibility to align with customer needs and preferences
• Own and deliver CMF documents and supporting production documentation
• Design for manufacturing considering cost, scale, materials, processes
• Excellent organization skills and ability to track multiple design programs
• Clear communication skills and ability present to upper leadership.
• Thrive and be passionate about innovating new category defining products under ambiguity

About the team
Leo Hardware Design team is a collaborative, multi-disciplinary organization of designers, engineers, product managers, and program managers working together to bring the product vision to life. We enjoy what we do, have big ideas, and tackle complex problems by taking risks that drive global solutions. In every work stream, we immerse ourselves in insights, and invent on behalf of our customers. We brainstorm scenarios they will benefit from and solutions to pain points—crafting innovative products that aim to connect the physical and digital customer journey.

Basic Qualifications

- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
- BA, BFA or BS in Industrial Design or related field
- 7+ years of professional industrial design experience.
- 7+ years of experience in a highly technical hardware domain, for example outdoor and indoor devices for consumer and enterprise customers.
- 5+ years of experience with one or more ID surfacing and parametric CAD tools, preferably a combination of Rhino, SolidWorks, Creo, Keyshot.

Preferred Qualifications

- Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Experience with the project management of technical projects
- Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Architecture or other related fields
- An exceptional portfolio that demonstrates delivering successful products from concept to production.
- Experience working with production vendors for high volume devices.
- Familiar with motion graphics and 3D animation expertise.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
