Job Title: Service Technician II

Job Description

As a Service Technician II, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of gas appliances, equipment, and associated systems on customers' premises. You will be responsible for inspecting, testing, and repairing equipment, as well as providing expert advice to consumers on the proper use of their appliances.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and test appliances, equipment, and associated systems on customers' premises.
  • Check high-pressure services for dust, water, or plugs.
  • Discuss major repairs or parts costs with customers using the stock parts price manual and special-order parts.
  • Use human senses and specialized equipment like leak detectors and manometers to detect and verify problems.
  • Repair, clean, adjust, change, or replace components such as burners, pilot lights, controls, valves, and regulators.
  • Lock, unlock, read, change, and remove meters; initiate plugged service.
  • Deliver cylinders as directed and investigate high bill complaints.
  • Collect money on COD orders and plug meter orders, ensuring proper revenue accounting.
  • Function as a first responder in gas-related emergencies, performing necessary repairs and directing personnel.
  • Maintain a courteous and tactful demeanor when interacting with customers and the public.
  • Drive and maintain service trucks, ensuring necessary supplies and equipment are available.
  • Perform clerical duties such as preparing reports and inputting data into the computer.
  • Comply with and enforce all safety rules and regulations, promoting safe work habits and good housekeeping.
  • Perform as Installer 1/C, Tank Truck Driver, Cylinder Driver, or Meter Reader when required.
  • Perform other related duties as instructed by supervisors or managers.

Essential Skills

  • Electrical and mechanical skills.
  • Valid Class B, CDL license with Hazardous Material endorsement.
  • Must have a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate and appropriate clearance certificate such as TWIC.
  • Completion of all required DOT, OSHA, and NFPA courses or programs.
  • At least four years of successful and progressive experience, including two years as a Service Technician III.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to install, repair, test, and adjust gas appliances and systems.
  • Proficient in the use of tools, materials, and equipment of the trade.
  • Good working knowledge of departmental operating rules, pertinent codes, regulations, and safety practices.
  • Ability to use a computer and maintain a clean traffic abstract.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Preferably a high school graduate with technical schooling.
  • Satisfactory completion of in-house Service Technician Training and Field Evaluation.
  • Must pass continuing refresher courses.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $33.56 - $33.56/hr.
