Position Description:
Join a high impact initiative to modernize and streamline federal finance operations through intelligent automation. As the Automation & AI SME, you'll blend business consulting with hands on solutioning to design and guide automations that reduce cycle time, improve data integrity, and elevate user experience across complex financial workflows. You'll partner with senior analysts, a project manager, and client stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable, testable automations (e.g., RPA/agent based scheduling), while shaping a practical roadmap for future AI/ML use cases. This role is ideal for a seasoned consultant who thrives at the intersection of finance, process, and automation technology in a collaborative, hybrid environment.
This position is located in our Fairfax, VA office; however, a hybrid working model is acceptable.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
Automation Support: Lead discovery and solution design for automations that streamline intergovernmental payment file handling, support outbound integrations with interagency invoicing platforms, and reduce research intensive business process backlog through rules based process optimization; document requirements, to be workflows, test scripts, and guide implementation. Define automation guardrails and standards (security, logging, exception handling) aligned with federal financial controls; create reusable patterns for scheduling/triggering.
- Data Analysis and Cleanup: Partner with data stewards to assess datasets, identify normalization rules, and specify configuration changes; support testing and migration.
- Enhancement Readiness: Evaluate upcoming financial system enhancements (current and next upgrade) to determine automation opportunities, user impacts, and change activities; provide demos, testing support, and training materials as needed.
- Process Improvement: Facilitate BPR workshops, draft implementation plans, and support change management/communications; contribute to SOPs and training support and feeder system improvements.
- Manage task plans, risks/issues, and stakeholder touchpoints
- Participate in client meetings and clearly document outcomes.
- Gather requirements (business, functional and technical) using collaborative, face-to-face workshops with the customers, stakeholders and the development team
- Follow established Change Request/SDLC processes to implement new functionality or issue resolutions.
- Develop and update system designs and training documentation
- Ensure the end-to-end solution is proven to deliver the required business results. Drive adoption of the designed processes and solution use with stakeholders.
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
- Federal financial management/accounting domain expertise; direct client facing consulting.
- Automation/RPA requirements and testing experience; ability to translate business rules into automations.
- Business Process Reengineering (BPR) and process mapping (as is/to be).
- Strong analytical thinking, communication (oral/written), and stakeholder engagement.

The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit-based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $79,600.00 - $172,400.00.
