Summary:

The Senior Director of Monitoring Engineering is a strategic technical leadership role responsible for architecting, scaling, and driving the execution of ADT’s next-generation, AI-powered "Monitoring as a Service" platform. This leader oversees Development teams to deliver resilient, cloud-native monitoring services that integrate AI/ML, IoT orchestration, and human-in-the-loop operations. Reporting to the VP of Platform Product and Engineering, this role ensures ADT’s monitoring services are proactive, predictive, and prioritize customer safety.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Platform Strategy and Evolution: Architect and lead the transition to a cloud-native, microservices-based platform capable of ingesting billions of daily IoT events across sensors and cameras.
  • AI and ML Engineering: Partner with Data Science to productionize models for event classification, object detection, and anomaly prediction while building robust AI Ops pipelines.
  • Human-in-the-Loop Systems: Design AI workflows that balance automation with human empathy, implementing real-time feedback loops and AI-assisted incident management tools.
  • Technical Leadership: Lead the planning and deployment of cloud-native services, enhancing $CI/CD$ pipelines and automation tools to boost developer agility and code quality.
  • Operational Excellence: Define platform-wide SLOs/SLIs for latency and uptime, overseeing multi-region, fault-tolerant infrastructure across AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Innovation and Experimentation: Develop digital twin simulations and "AI Experience Labs" to prototype and test multimodal AI applications in real environments.
  • Risk Management: Proactively identify and mitigate technical and scheduling risks while establishing operational policies and procedures.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Technical Expertise: Deep engineering knowledge across cloud-scale architectures, real-time streaming, microservices design, API development, and AI/ML system lifecycles.
  • Strategic Leadership: Proven ability to manage high-performing, distributed teams and align technical initiatives with financial and business objectives.
  • AI-Native Thinking: Passion for creating AI systems that augment human intelligence and provide personalized security experiences.
  • Communication: Effective at influencing and aligning stakeholders at all levels, from IT to business leadership.
  • Analytical Problem-Solving: A data-driven approach to decision-making, combining creative prototyping with rigorous experimentation.
  • Supervisory: Oversees a diverse team of platform engineers, ML specialists, and works closely with Enterprise Architecture.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional Experience: 20+ years of professional experience, with at least 10+ years in engineering and a track record of launching B2B or B2C products.
  • Leadership Experience: 5+ years leading distributed teams and managing technical leaders.
  • Technical Mastery: Proficiency in container orchestration (Kubernetes, Docker), Infrastructure as Code (Terraform), and modern cloud infrastructure.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry Experience: Prior experience in security, smart home, or IoT industries.
  • Internal Tenure: 10+ years of experience specifically at ADT.
  • AI Integration: Experience integrating GenAI, LLMs, or multimodal AI into customer-facing products.
