Our client, an apparel company, is looking for a Senior Designer for Baby Boy to join their team in NYC!
Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of baby boys apparel collections from concept through production, ensuring alignment with brand vision, customer needs, and business objectives.
Research and interpret fashion trends, color direction, graphics, fabric innovations, and competitive market insights to create commercially successful products.
Develop seasonal concepts, mood boards, color palettes, prints, graphics, and product assortments for baby boys categories including knit tops, sets, woven shirts, bottoms, outerwear, sleepwear, and layette.
Create detailed sketches, CADs, technical packages, and design specifications to communicate product vision to cross-functional teams and overseas factories.
Partner closely with merchandising, product development, sourcing, and production teams to ensure designs meet cost targets, quality standards, and delivery timelines.
Review and approve fabrics, trims, artwork, lab dips, strike-offs, fit samples, pre-production samples, and TOP samples throughout the development process.
Attend fittings and collaborate with technical design teams to achieve optimal fit, comfort, safety, and functionality for infant and toddler consumers.
Present seasonal concepts, product strategies, and design direction to senior leadership, customers, and retail partners.
Manage multiple product categories and development calendars while ensuring all milestones are met.
Mentor and provide guidance to associate and assistant designers, fostering professional growth and maintaining design excellence across the team.
Collaborate with licensors and licensing teams, when applicable, to ensure brand compliance and timely approvals for licensed product programs.
Drive innovation by identifying new product opportunities, fabrication techniques, and design details that enhance the customer experience and support business growth.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design or a related field.
5+ years of apparel design experience, with significant experience in children's apparel, baby apparel, or infant/toddler categories.
Strong understanding of baby boys apparel construction, fit, fabrication, safety requirements, and age-appropriate design considerations.
Proven ability to develop commercially successful collections for mass market, department store, specialty retail, or off-price channels.
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office applications.
Experience creating technical packages, CADs, artwork, prints, and seasonal presentations.
Strong knowledge of garment construction, fabric development, wash techniques, trims, and production processes.
Experience working directly with overseas factories and cross-functional product development teams.
Excellent organizational, project management, and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across departments.
Leadership experience mentoring junior designers and contributing to team development preferred.
Experience with licensed apparel programs and character brands is a plus.
Detail-oriented, creative, and highly motivated with a passion for children's and baby apparel design.
