Position Overview
We are seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer to design, program, commission, and optimize automated control systems for a manufacturing facility in Indianapolis.
Key Responsibilities
PLC/HMI & Control Systems Engineering
- Design, program, and troubleshoot complex PLC code utilizing Rockwell Automation suite (Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000/500).
- Develop and configure intuitive HMI/SCADA interfaces (FactoryTalk View SE/ME, Ignition, or Wonderware) to maximize operator efficiency and process visibility.
- Configure and integrate industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet) and instrumentation (flow meters, control valves, VFDs).
Process Design & Compliance (cGMP)
- Architect control strategies for batch and continuous process loops (PID tuning, mass/volumetric flow control, thermal processing).
- Ensure all software and hardware designs comply with FDA 21 CFR Part 11, ISA-88 batch control standards, and local safety regulations.
- Author, review, and execute lifecycle documentation, including Functional Specifications (FS), User Requirement Specifications (URS), and IQ/OQ/PQ commissioning protocols.
Project Leadership & Mentorship
- Lead automation projects from initial scope and hardware selection through to final site acceptance testing (SAT).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Validation, Quality, Production, and Capital Projects).
- Provide technical mentorship and escalation support to junior automation engineers and plant maintenance technicians.
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
- Experience: 3+ years of dedicated controls/automation engineering experience, with a proven track record in a highly regulated process industry (Pharmaceuticals, Biotech, Food/Beverage, or Chemical).
- Technical Core: Expert-level proficiency in Allen-Bradley PLC programming (ControlLogix, CompactLogix) and the Rockwell Software ecosystem.
- Regulated Environment: Solid working knowledge of GAMP5, cGMP regulations, and validation practices.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field (equivalent hands-on experience will be considered).
Preferred:
- Experience with batch processing software (Rockwell FTBatch) or historian packages (FT Historian, OSIsoft PI).
- Familiarity with clean-in-place (CIP) systems, sterilization (SIP), or clean utility controls.
- Experience leading local systems integration projects in the Midwest area.
