Overview

UMIAQ Design is seeking a registered Senior Civil Engineer to support a diverse portfolio of challenging projects throughout both rural and urban Alaska. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality civil engineering solutions while working closely with multidisciplinary teams and clients throughout all phases of project development. Responsibilities

Essential functions will include:

  • Provide civil engineering design for a variety of projects, including urban and rural site development, roadways, water distribution and wastewater collection systems, and landfills.
  • Prepare design documents (drawings, specifications, permit applications, and cost estimates) across all project phases.
  • Support the bidding process, including development of bid documents and contractor coordination.
  • Provide construction administration services and assist with project closeout.
  • Plan and execute projects to meet high quality standards on time and within project budget.
  • Collaborate with internal and external design teams across multiple disciplines.
  • Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies throughout project development.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentor junior engineers and technical support staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited institution.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) registration in the State of Alaska in the Civil Engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in civil and environmental engineering design (water & sewer systems, landfills, civil site development, roads, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Physical and Mental Demands:

  • Must be capable of managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be able to travel to remote project locations using various modes of transportation.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to walk and work on unimproved terrain and active construction sites, often in varying weather conditions.

Working Conditions

  • Primarily office-based work, with occasional travel to remote locations and active construction sites.
  • May require travel to remote areas of Alaska throughout the year.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of environmental conditions.
  • Field assignments may involve exposure to harsh weather, rugged terrain, and limited access to amenities.
