EXAMINATION INFORMATION
WRITTEN EXAMINATION:The exam may be computerized, or a traditional pencil and paper designed to test the objectives of the duties and minimum qualifications of the classification
Under general supervision, has charge of responsible work involving the receiving and disbursing of money. Performs related duties as required.
TYPICAL TASKS:
Acts as receiving teller for payments from customers and collectors for services rendered by governmental departments and agencies. Acts as paying cashier in connection with specific funds or accounts involving responsibility for substantial amounts of cash. Does necessarytreasury accounting and record-keeping in connection with the handling of cash receiptsand disbursements. Balances cash. Acts as outside paymaster in distributing payroll checksto employees.Assistsin the preparation of bank deposits.Maintainsbooks showing dailybalances, receipts, and disbursements. Prepares daily and periodic reports in connectionwith the handling of cash. Supervises andassistsin the preparation of cash payrolls andthe paying of employees. Pays out and accounts for salary advances to individualemployees. Checks and proves cashiers' daily reports. Administers petty cash and otherfunds. Makes settlements and keeps necessary payroll records in connection with orders inaid of execution, garnishments, wage assignments, trusteeship, and other court ordersbased on legal claims and proceedings against governmental employees. Reconcilespayrolls, bank statements, and cancelled checks with treasury accounts. Reconciles cashbalance with supporting records such aswarrantsand vouchers. Accounts for unclaimedcash items. Answers routine inquiries. Has charge of receipts or disbursements of specialfunds or accounts. Checks moneys for the purpose of detecting counterfeit currency orcoin. Makes change for other cashiers. Operates office appliances, such as check-writer,cash register, adding machine, addressograph, and Graphotype machine. Makes treasurycollections of funds received at various field offices and stations. Computesamountsdueon bills,determinesdiscounts, makes customers' change, imprints andretainsstubs andexecutes continuous daily record tape. Has responsibility for a private safe, vault, or safecombinations. Does miscellaneous sorting, filing, and recordkeeping.
High School Diploma or GED required. Three years of full-time paid experience as a cashier required. (Substitution: One year of college may substitute for one year of experience lackingVETERANS’ PREFERENCE
Veterans' preference will be awarded, when applicable, to eligible veterans in accordance with Civil Service Rules 4.40E, 4.40F and 4.40G. Proof of active service or a DD Form 214, must be presented to the Commission at the time of filing application for the examination in which credit is sought in order to qualify for veterans' credit. If the applicant has received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions that applicant shall receive an additional five (5) points added to their raw score on the examination; or ten (10) points are added to their raw score on the examination if applicant’s supporting documentation indicates more than fifteen percent (%) service-connected disability. NOTE: Only DD Form 214 (long form) or an official armed service document indicating type of discharge or separation and the dates of active service will be accepted as proof of active service.
