SENIOR BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE ENGINEER - Poweer BI


The first-round interview process will be highly technical and heavily focused on Power BI expertise. Each interviewer will be asking in-depth Power BI specialist technical questions throughout the initial interview process.


  • The team is heavily testing foundational Power BI concepts (DAX, data modeling, star schema, row vs. filter context, governance, Premium capacity, dashboard architecture, etc.) and realizing candidates do not have these skills.
  • They are looking for genuine day-to-day Power BI specialists, not people who:
  • oversee BI work,
  • are more managerial/strategic,
  • are broader BI professionals,
  • or are more AI-focused than BI-engineering focused.


SALARY: $100k - $150k plus discretionary bonus


LOCATION: Chicago, IL hybrid 3-4 days onsite 1-2 days remote


SELLING POINTS: 5 years power BI strong SQLdata querying across relational and cloud native data sources hands on experience building semantic models calculated measures and KPIs using DAX and power query bs degree required any data bricks or dat platform snowflake azure synapse any tableau cognos mdx a plus


What the Role Focuses On


Designing and building Power BI dashboards and reports

Developing semantic/data models where needed

Translating business requirements into technical specifications

Partnering with stakeholders (Finance, Marketing, etc.) to define KPIs

Collaborating with data engineers when new data ingestion is required

Supporting migration from legacy tools (Cognos, SSRS)

Breakdown: ~80% hands-on development, ~20% stakeholder engagement


-5 years designing and delivering enterprise BI solutions

-Education requirements met (BA)

-Databricks or data platform exposure

-Expert in Power BI

-Legal of Professional Services Exp


Preferred:

Legal industry experience (highly valued)

Professional services background (e.g., Deloitte, KPMG)

Experience in BI modernization or migration efforts

Certifications - PL-300 (Power BI Data Analyst) or DP-600 (Fabric Analytics Engineer)


Ideal profile:

A Power BI specialist (not a generalist) who can hit the ground running and operate between business and technical teams.
