Senior Accountant — Fintech (API deposit services)

Position Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Accountant to support our accounting operations in a regulated FinTech environment. This role will be responsible for managing general ledger activities, ensuring compliance with banking and financial regulations, and supporting the accounting and reporting of deposit products offered through sponsor bank partnerships. The ideal candidate has strong knowledge of financial services accounting, experience with API-driven transaction flows, and a solid understanding of banking operations, including customer funds, ACH transactions, and reconciliations.

Key responsibilities

  • Banking & FinTech Operations
  • Account for customer deposit balances held at sponsor banks, ensuring proper segregation and reporting
  • Reconcile API-driven transaction data (e.g., deposits, wire transfer activities, ACH activity) with bank reports
  • Monitor and record ACH transactions, returns, and adjustments
  • Ensure proper accounting treatment of custodial / customer deposits accounts


  • Reconciliations & Controls
  • Perform daily and monthly reconciliations between internal systems, APIs, and sponsor bank statements
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner
  • Develop and maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting and transaction processing


  • Process Improvement & Systems
  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams to understand API data flows and improve accounting processes
  • Assist in implementing and optimizing accounting systems and automation tools
  • Drive process improvements for scalability and efficiency in a high-growth environment
  • Implement and maintain internal controls, SOX-readiness and audit support.


  • Process Improvement & Systems
  • Own end-to-end accounts payable processes: vendor onboarding, invoice intake, validation, coding, and timely payment.
  • Establish and manage an efficient payment schedule and approval workflow (weekly/biweekly payment runs) to optimize cash flow.
  • Implement and enforce AP policies (invoice approval matrix, expense policy, vendor selection/terms).
  • Reconcile vendor statements, resolve invoice discrepancies, and manage vendor inquiries.
  • Drive automation of AP (OCR/invoice capture, bill pay, ERP workflows) and integrate AP data with banking and accounting systems.


Qualifications

  • 5+ years’ accounting experience; banking accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience in fintech, banking, or SaaS preferred.
  • Strong GAAP knowledge; experience with deposits account transaction reconciliation and cash accounting treatments relevant to deposits.
  • Comfortable working with large, high-frequency transaction volumes and API-based transactional data.
  • Experience with audits and establishing internal controls (SOX exposure a plus).
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance.

Technical skills

  • Advanced Excel skills; strong analytical and reconciliation skills.
  • Experience with accounting systems (NetSuite, Oracle, or similar).
  • Familiarity with data processing tools and/or accounting automation tools is a plus.
  • Comfortable interfacing with engineering/IT and mapping technical event data to accounting records.
