Senior Accountant-Enterprise Funds

An employee in this class, under general direction of the Director of Finance or designee, performs professional accounting and financial analysis work specific to the County’s Enterprise Funds (e.g., water, sewer, airport, or other business-type activities). This position combines elements of budget development, financial reporting, audit coordination, and accounts receivable oversight, with a strong emphasis on compliance with governmental accounting standards (GASB) applicable to enterprise operations.

The Enterprise Fund Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting the annual audit, assisting with the preparation and monitoring of enterprise fund budgets, and producing detailed financial and statistical reports for internal management and external regulatory agencies. The employee works closely with department leadership, auditors, and other stakeholders to ensure fiscal integrity, operational efficiency, and transparency.Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting;OR
Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Business Administration with substantial coursework in accounting, including financial and governmental accounting; AND
A minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible professional experience in accounting, finance, or auditing, preferably within a governmental or public-sector environment, including substantial use of computerized financial systems and spreadsheet applications.

Preferred but not required
Coursework or advanced training in governmental or public-sector accounting;
Experience with enterprise fund operations in a governmental environment (e.g., utilities, airport, or other business-type activities);
Experience preparing or supporting annual financial statements and working directly with external auditors;
Professional certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or progress toward certification.PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
The employee performs generally sedentary work with occasional lifting of objects weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

EVALUATION CONTENT
The selected candidate must take a post-offer medical examination (including back screen and complete physical) and drug screening test given by a County appointed physician before the first day of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the medical examination and drug screening test. Applicants for County employment may be subject to a post-offer criminal background check, depending on the nature and assignment of the position. When such check is conducted, an offer of employment is contingent upon the results of the criminal background check. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent.

PURPOSE
The purpose of this recruitment is to establish an eligible list from which to fill present and future vacancies in this classification in the County system. For each opening, the Department Head has her/his choice of the candidates who meet the required minimum entrance qualifications. This list remains in effect for three months unless exhausted or extended.
