Position Purpose:
To further the mission of the camp through the planning and delivery of program activities and events.Design and deliver program activities that are safe, intentional, andappropriate tothe campers’ age and abilities.Assistin the management of the overall camp operationatthe direction of the Camp Director.This position is forSleepaway Camp- employees will stay at camp for the duration of eachone weeksession. Lodging and meals are provided.
Essential Job Functions:
Responsible for the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their camper group during and throughout the campin order tomeet the intended camper outcomes.
Prepare and implement programs that meet camp outcomes and the abilities of the campers.
Complete any required paperwork to show progression
Deliver progressive program activities that encourage risk-taking and outside the box thinking.
Evaluate the success of the program and the development of the campers’ abilities and skills in various program activities.
Coordinate all campprogramand campfire activities with other staff.
Ensure that camp staff and campers know and follow safety and educational procedures during camp programs.
Assistin the implementation of staff training.
Provide guidelines for programsutilizingcamp equipment and materials.
Ensure campers and staff follow safety procedures in all program areas.
Assistin the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in all program areas.
Oversee daily checks of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair. Report all maintenance reports to the Business Manager.
Ensure that program areas are keptfeeofhazards and debris.
Supervise and evaluate Unit Leadersand Assistant Unit Leaders.
Regularlymonitorworkof Unit Leaders and Assistant Unit Leaders.
Provide ongoing feedback and guidance to Unit Leaders and Assistant Unit Leaders.
Provide recommendations and concerns toCampDirector.
Complete mid-summer and end-of-summer evaluations of Unit Leaders and Assistant Unit Leaders.
Other Job Duties:
Attend alltrainingsbefore and during camp season.
Adhere to all GSCSNJ council policies and procedures.
Observe all safety precautions andcomply withall GSCSNJ council health and safety rules and procedures.
Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, providing support and guidance to those assigned as leaders.
Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs,special events, night lights, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
Provide ongoing program ideas to counseling and activity area staff.
Provide supervision for campers while at camp or during camp-sponsored field trips.
Supervise and guide Unit Leaders and Assistant Unit Leaders.
Contribute to verbal and written evaluations and communication as requested.
Attend administrative staff meetings.
Maintain clear and positive written and verbal communication with all camp staff.
Qualifications:
Must be at least18years of age.
High schoolgraduatepreferred.
First Aid/CPR certification preferred.
Mustsubmithealthhistory record and record of immunizations prior tofirstday of work.
Ability to interact with all age levels.
Experience in the development and delivery of programs and activities forsimilarpopulation.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Training and experience in teachingprogramto adults and children.
Desire and ability to work with children outdoors.
Physical Aspects of the Position:
Ability to communicate and work with all participating groups and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.
Ability toobservecamper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforceappropriate safetyregulations and emergency procedures, and applyappropriate behavior-managementtechniques.

Visual and auditory ability toidentifyand respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able toassistcampers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) andpossessstrength and endurancerequiredtomaintainconstant supervision of campers.
Physical endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching.
The ability to liftprogramsupplies up to 50 lbs.
The ability to withstand daily exposure to the sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, etc.
