The Seasonal Playologist, also known as the Visitor Services Specialist, plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe, engaging, and positive experience for all visitors at the Museum. This position involves direct interaction with visitors, facilitating play-based learning experiences, and supporting various Museum operations. This position runs for about 3 months, depending on operational needs.
Job Responsibilities- Greet all visitors warmly upon entry and departure from the Museum.
- Provide excellent customer service to enhance visitor experience during exhibit exploration.
- Use point-of-sale systems to check in members and sell admission, memberships, and merchandise.
- Assist with member and visitor inquiries and requests in person and over the phone.
- Perform opening and closing procedures for exhibit areas and front desk.
- Reset exhibits and play spaces regularly throughout the day for continuous visitor engagement.
- Ensure all exhibit areas and play spaces are meticulously cleaned and sanitized according to Museum standards.
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of Museum programs and special events.
- Monitor member and visitor behavior to ensure adherence to Museum rules and codes of conduct.
- Address visitor concerns and de-escalate any conflicts using a positive and customer-centered approach.
- Report maintenance needs promptly to the Visitor Services Manager.
- Assist with organizing lost and found items.
- Support retail restocking and other operational tasks as needed.
- Additional projects and duties as assigned.
Qualifications- 18 years of age or older.
- Bilingual skills preferred.
- Experience in customer service, preferably in a museum, retail, or hospitality setting.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively with diverse audiences.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Enthusiasm for promoting educational experiences through play.
- Ability to maintain professional behavior under pressure.
- Must be punctual, with reliable transportation.
- Must be available to work weekend shifts.
Physical Requirements- This position requires the employee to be mobile throughout the shift, moving throughout exhibit spaces within the Museum grounds. Tasks may involve bending, stooping, or crouching to a child’s level to provide assistance as needed.
- The employee is regularly required to lift and/or carry up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 30 pounds.
- Visual acuity required to read printed instructions and safety information, and to assess guest activity at close range and at a distance.
- Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication (in person and via telephone), at normal speaking levels with or without correction.
Work Environment- This position primarily functions both indoors and outdoors with exposure to heat, cold, and inclement weather.
- The employee is regularly in contact with children and the public.
Position DetailsThis is a part-time, temporary, hourly position, reporting to the Visitor Services Manager.
Hours: Up to 29 hours per week.
The pay range for this position is $19.00 – $20.00 per hour.
