SEASONAL LEARN TO SWIM (LTS) COORDINATOR

Responsible for managing the Learn-to-Swim (LTS) program, various other instructional programs, and the Learn-to-Swim staff.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Regular attendance is required to perform the duties of this position.
  • Recognize and respond effectively to all emergencies.
  • Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations.
  • Assist in the planning and organization of Learn-to-Swim registrations and program administration, including but not limited to, class offerings, class limits, instructor placement and course outlines.
  • Publicize Learn-to-Swim programs throughout the community.
  • Test program participants for swimming skill levels; pass participants for participation in more advanced classes.
  • Evaluate instructors’ performance in the LTS program.
  • Perform various miscellaneous duties such as answering phone and maintaining sanitary and safe standards in and around aquatic facilities.
  • Respond to public inquiries about LTS programs made in person and by telephone.
  • Maintain related records for LTS programs, including course record reports, time sheets, report cards and daily operating records.
  • Assist in the maintenance of the swimming pool, as needed.
  • Daily communication with management regarding activities at the facility.
  • Maintain order, anticipate problems and take necessary steps to prevent or defuse problems in the aquatic facility.

Education and Experience:
  • Any combination of education and knowledge equivalent to a high school background.
  • Must have a phone or reliable message contact.
  • Ability to obtain certification in First Aid and CPR preferred.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Skill in operation of listed equipment.
  • Skill in American Red Cross Community First Aid, CPR and Water Safety Instruction.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors and the general public; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to give and understand oral instructions.
  • Ability to effectively teach swimming lessons; ability to effectively enforce safety and health regulations relating to an aquatics program.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, run, swim, sit and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate controls and reach with upper and lower body and hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to balance, stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals.
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office and moderately loud when in the field.
