Seasonal - Laborer (Public Works)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Performs watering, weed control, litter pickup and mulching of landscaped areas.
  • Plants/maintains shrubs, trees, ground covers, flower beds and perennials.
  • Performs pruning, applies fertilizers, soil amendments, edging and vandalism repairs.
  • Performs building clean-up.
  • Drives City vehicles that do not require a Commercial Driver's License.
  • Assists with the collection and disposal of refuse collected from residential areas or businesses.
  • Assists with patching/crack filling of City streets or sidewalks

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Assist with forestry operations for tree planting, pruning, removal, and stump removal.
  • Assist with other public works operational needs as priorities dictate which could include Sanitation, Water or Street Divisions.

  • Must provide own steel toed shoes.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be at least eighteen years of age.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to fill out daily reports.
  • Knowledge on how to use hand and power tools.
  • Ability to use a broom and a shovel.
  • Ability to read and understand street maps, plat maps and directions.
  • Ability to perform minor equipment repairs.
  • Ability to drive efficiently and safely.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to maintain effective relationships with other employees and to deal with the public in a courteous and tactful manner.
  • Ability to withstand a variety of temperatures and adverse weather conditions, good physical condition.
  • Ability to perform tasks on a regular basis which require frequent standing, climbing, lifting, reaching, bending, squatting and carrying.
  • Ability to lift, push and pull.
  • Ability to work in a safe manner.
EMPLOYMENT PERIOD: May - September

WORK SCHEDULE: Hours per day: 8
Flexible hours: 5:00a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Days per week: 5
Hours per week: up to 40
