GENERAL DESCRIPTION:


Under limited supervision, this position plays an important role in keeping State buildings and grounds safe, secure, and well-maintained—helping ensure a positive environment for employees and the public alike. This is a great opportunity for someone who takes pride in hands-on work and enjoys the variety that comes with no two days being exactly the same.

In this role, you’ll contribute directly to the upkeep and functionality of State facilities by performing general maintenance and a wide range of tasks as needed. Your work will have a visible, day-to-day impact, supporting operations and creating spaces that are clean, safe, and welcoming.

While this position does not include supervisory responsibilities, you’ll have the opportunity to provide input on budget considerations and play a meaningful part in maintaining high standards across facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.


  • Responsible for weed and pest control, mowing, trimming, aerating, planting trees, and repairing sprinkler and irrigation systems.
  • Removingsnow and ice in addition to other general building and grounds repair work.
  • Repairs, adjusts, and assists in the installation of a variety of equipmentand fixtures.
  • Works as a helper in any specialist trade area (plumbing, electrical, HVAC,carpentry, painting, or locksmith).
  • Performs preventive maintenance and janitorial duties in the buildingfacilities.
  • Updates inventory on pertinent custodial, construction, and officeequipment. Maintains current inventory of parts and supplies; keeps logs on equipment.
  • Perform basic mechanical work under the direct supervision of the state SeniorMechanic.
  • Assist DPW office personnel with basic administrative functions, travel topick up parts, and basic housekeeping duties.


PREFERENCES:


Preference may be given to those with a High School Diploma and0-6 months of progressive work experience in Building and Grounds or those who have previously held the seasonal position.


KNOWLEDGE:


  • Knowledge of power and manual tools.
  • Knowledge of sprinkler systems and irrigation equipment.
  • Knowledge of mower, weed eater, and grounds equipment operations.
  • Knowledge of basic office functions.
  • Knowledge of basic mechanical repairs and services.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Exposure to hazardous materials, bodily fluids, chemicals, and other elements.
  • Must be able to drive vehicles, and operate lawn mower and weed eater.
