Description
The service technician oversees and is accountable for the operation of the repair and service center, completing repairs, and servicing customers’ Scuba equipment for all Divers Direct store locations, including routine maintenance of student rental gear. The service manager is responsible for the ongoing operation and maintenance of air compressors in stores.
Duties / Essential Functions:
- Oversee the repair and service center operations
- Perform routine maintenance of Scuba equipment, including disassembly, inspection, cleaning, repair and replacement of defective parts, product assembly and testing
- Complete, process and maintain all relevant paperwork and service records
- Coordinate with Store Managers to track service progress, manage chain-of-custody and shipping of customer gear, and provide regular updates on service turnaround time for communication with customers
- Respond to customer inquiries on the telephone, by mail, e-mail and in person
- Manage Compressed Air Operations processes within the stores, including oversight of routine maintenance and testing as well as troubleshooting of compressor-related problems
- Ensure compressor compliance with applicable air quality standards for breathing gases in accordance with DOT, OSHA, State and Federal agencies; document and maintain records for employees involved in Hazardous Materials Operations
- Procure additional Compressed Air equipment for use in stores, as well as ordering tools and supplies needed for inspections.
- Collect data and provide regular reports on equipment servicing, repairs, air fills & inspection services
- Assist in training employees in the proper procedures for accepting and processing repairs as well as various aspects of compressor operations and maintenance
- Provide Store Operations support during special events and sales, or as needed to cover staffing deficiencies.

Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must have at least 2 years experience servicing and repairing Scuba equipment; professional certifications in the repair of Mares, Atomic, Oceanic, Aeris, AquaLung, Zeagle Cressi, Ocean Reef and Spare Air products are preferred.
- Must be Scuba Certified; Professional Level Dive Instructor qualifications are highly desirable.
- Certification as a PSI Cylinder Inspector and previous experience with High Pressure Compressed Air Systems and their maintenance.
- A combination of education, certifications, and work experience may be qualifying.
- Must have good housekeeping, organizational & prioritization skills, to manage the daily workflow.
- Must be proficient in computer operations, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent interpersonal skills. Must be willing and able to work in a collaborative setting with a diverse group of internal and external customers and vendors.

- Must be a self-starter, highly motivated to complete projects as assigned
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines under pressure
- Must be available to travel to and assist at stores as needed
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
- Must have mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools.
- Must be able to read and understand part schematics and repair manuals.
- Must be able to sit, stand and walk for significant periods of time.
- Must be able to communicate effectively with others both orally and in writing.
