This position assists the storeroom manager in the support of science faculty and students in Salem and Woodburn. The Science Storeroom Assistant prepares equipment, materials and chemicals for the utilization in the physical and life science labs; monitors, organizes, and maintains the use of chemicals, supplies and equipment in both Salem and Woodburn Science labs and storerooms.

Instructional Support

  • Prepares equipment, materials, chemicals and solutions for both physical and life science labs according to lab prep sheets

  • Washes and returns equipment and materials to appropriate storage locations after completion of labs

  • Picks up and delivers supplies to the appropriate campus


Storeroom Organization, Inventory & Equipment Maintenance

  • Maintains equipment belonging in Woodburn and Salem separately

  • Maintains general housekeeping, safety, and security in the storeroom, laboratories and greenhouse

  • Assist with receiving and recording arrivals of supply/equipment orders

  • Assist storeroom manager with inventory of consumables on both campuses

  • Organizes and maintains science equipment; performs minor repairs as needed

  • Assists the Storeroom Manager in supervising and training student or part time employees in the science storeroom

  • Provides live plant and animal care

  • Assist to maintain hazardous waste logs and storage according to RCRA regulations on both campuses

  • Ensures lab, storeroom and employee safety by following all applicable rules including OR-OSHA regulations

Minimum Qualifications:

This level requires an equivalency of two (2) years of full-time work experience that reflects the knowledge, skills and experience to perform the essential functions listed above


This is typically achieved through an Associate’s Degree or two (2) years of full-time work experience which reflects the knowledge, skills and experience to perform the essential functions listed above.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or Chemistry

  • Work experience in a science lab setting

  • Upper division course work in chemistry or biology with a lab and grade of C or better

  • Experience with stockroom/stores support including chemical solution preparation and plant and animal care

  • Experience maintaining and repairing scientific instrumentation

  • Experience with stockroom/stores inventory control and knowledge of current chemical safety and health protocols

  • Training in OSHA Chemical Hygiene and Hazardous Communication standards

SCHEDULE & MODALITY

This position is not eligible for remote/hybrid work.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • This is a 100%, 12-month classified assignment at the 9 pay rate
  • This position has a 6-month probationary period
  • All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings and/or weekends
  • This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations
  • If requested, requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
  • Employees must maintain Oregon, Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sedentary Work:Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary requirements are met.

PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS

Chemeketa Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program, full-time employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
